Forever Forgotten, Forever Remembered

Hello! This is my new nano-story! This time, the topic had to be: in first person, and the title had to include at least one of these words-PS; Nevermind; Forever; Dawn. Enjoy!

“Who are you?” she asked, staring at my face.

It broke my heart to see her so—not remembering anything since…the accident.

I stared at her with my green eyes, staring into her own blue ones.

“M-my name is Josh,” I answered hesitantly, hoping to see a flicker of remembrance in her eyes. Sadly, there was none.

She smiled lightly at the mention of my name, not out of remembering though—out of being nice.

“Hello, Josh. It’s nice to meet you,” she greeted kindly.

If I were alone, I think I might have cried. She didn’t remember me. According to the doctor, she had Amnesia. He didn’t know if it would go away or if Annabel would stay like that for the rest of her life. I prayed every day that she would one day remember me.

The accident happened almost a year ago. Her family was driving on a rainy night, when a drunk driver rammed their car off the bridge they were on. Her mother received a broken arm and three broken ribs, while her father broke his pelvis.

But Annabel…she was in a bad condition. She had a cracked skull, which the doctors had miraculously fixed by performing a seven-hour surgery on. However…she couldn’t remember anything about anyone.

My dad suddenly decided to take my family and I to Germany for a year a couple months before the accident. Which was why—almost a year later—this was my first visit to the hospital.

I had heard from her grandma about her accident and rushed back to Minneapolis as fast as I could—about a year later.

A year has passed, and Annabel’s memory still hasn’t come back. Even worse, she showed no sign of healing.

The thing I wished right now was for her to say my name in her clear, fair voice.

Poor Annabel. She couldn’t leave this hospital. No school, no hanging out with friends, and everyone that loved her had to come here to visit her.

I looked at my watch. I had about thirty minutes to get to school. But I didn’t want to leave without Annabel showing some sign of healing.

Instead, I went to her, and lightly kissed her on the lips. She didn’t look startled, but did slightly flinch. I gave her one last look and walked out the door and out of the hospital.

Turns out, I was actually ten minutes early; the rest of the day at school passed by in a blur.

Everywhere I went in school had memories of Annabel. I walked by her locker on my way to English; the girl who was sitting next to me was reading Annabel’s favorite book, Sense and Sensibility; the cafeteria was serving Annabel’s favorite lunch.

Toward the end of school—during my last period, History—the intercom went off, calling my name.

Josh Downs please come to the office immediately.

Everyone in my class watched me as I walked through the door. I slowly walked to the office in the empty hallways.

Finally, I reached it, and when I opened it, I received the shock of my life.

Annabel was sitting there, reading Sense and Sensibility. As I set my foot on the blue carpet, she looked up at me, stunning me with her beautiful smile for a second.

“Annabel?” I asked, puzzled.

I shut the door and found out that Annabel’s family, my family, and a guy whom I assumed was the doctor was there.

“What’s going on?” I queried, wanting to know the occasion.

Was it possible that…

“A miracle,” stated the doctor, a look of utter joy on his face.

Annabel walked over to me, and hugged me. When she let go, she stood in front of me, a smile playing on her face.

“Josh.”

Well, did you like it?

I Don't think I will write a sequal; I like ending it like that.

Thanks for reading!
