It’s not worth it.

The needless beatings, pain, and heartache.

It’s not worth it.

Just being told once "I love you" is all I want,

But instead I get a present that represents an apology.

Why?

Do you feel guilty?

Do you want me to keep silent?

Am I supposed to believe you care?

Why?

You never call, write, or talk.

You just apologize, constantly.

As flowers become the sweltering sun.

As the sun become the multi-toned leaves.

As the leaves become wolf-white snow.

You never talk; you never speak.

All you do is apologize.

“I’m sorry” is your catchphrase.

You never changed.

But I did.

My hair, my clothes, my attitude.

Nothing is the same.

Our talking, our laughing,

Nothing but a memory in my mind.

Nothing…that’s all it means.

I cared once.

Once…that’s all.

So, “I’m sorry” will never work again.

I feel no remorse.

I feel no hatred.

I feel nothing but what was once were.

You are a memory.

A figment, a frame in time, that’s it.

As the sun rises over the snow riddled sky,

You appear before me with those apologetic eyes.

You hold me close, you whisper in my ear.

“I love you.”

I hug you back, and a tear falls from my eye.

Only because that is the only thing I wanted to hear.
