I don’t know how I came up with this, I honestly don’t. I was reading my school’s literary magazine online, and the words just came to me. So I went outside and thought a bit, and then I got this. Please enjoy.
Diamonds
I was put down from being an editor
Because they said I was too tough
On submissions.
So now I’m doing this
Degrading, menial task
Of writing poems.
I don’t see the point.
I mean, that’s the way life works, too
So I figured I was giving them a life lesson.
If you are not
Completely diamondlike
In your radiance
Then you are going to lose.
Ordinary charcoal
Can only become a diamond
Through pressure.
I gave them pressure
To try to make them into diamonds
And what do I get?
“You can not edit anymore.”
“You are simply too tough.”
Well,
Excuse me
For turning down charcoal.
Forgive me
For wanting them to shine.
Pardon me
For
Wanting
Diamonds.
I personally really liked this poem. I hope you did too.
