She’s dancing in the moonlight,
Twisting and twirling.
This is the girl I know,
Away from the harsh light of day
And the layers of dark makeup
She laughs, almost to quite to hear
But I’m looking for it
Her rich brown hair is gone
Replaced by black
She’s been running for so long,
Too long,
That it’s calming to see her act like the friend I know
It has been years since she’s laughed
Because she’s pleased;
She only laughs to please now.
“I want to be different” she tells me one day
Yet she becomes more stereotypical every minute
“I don’t care what they think.”
But she calls me, hours later, bawling.
She ignores me when she’s with them,
Her friends
Because I’m not the right type-
I don’t fit in
When all falls down,
Do they get the phone call?
Do they have to listen to her belittle herself,
“I don’t think I want to live anymore”
Do they have to run up the two hills to rescue her
When he’s drunk and hitting her?
No.
She calls me, depends on me
“Help, please.”
But tonight, that is forgotten.
She’s just a girl tonight, worries have dissolved for now
Her aqua eyes sparkle with the stars.
I wonder if she realizes how much she has changed?
