the little red balloon wanted to fly away, explained my father

as he sat and I laid cloaked in the darkness of my room

the nightlight being our only friend

the little red balloon wanted to fly away

to someplace that was nicer

he quite liked the little girl with ribbons in her hair who was holding him so tightly

but he felt trapped and alone

even amongst all the other balloons

because he was the only red one.

so one day the little balloon wriggled his way carefully and

very softly out of

the little girl’s hand. And it flew away and it say lots of places that made it happy and

the balloon had adventures and fun.

and then the balloon wanted to go back to the little girl, but it was too late

because he hadn’t realized that once he flew

away

he would not know his way back to

the little girl with the ribbons in her hair.
