My Point of View

On June 15th, 2008, Father’s Day began bright and sunny; as the temperatures rose so did the fun! After a nice breakfast and my dad liking his presents, we went outside to play and enjoy the day. I installed one of my dad’s new presents, an American Flag. After all of this work, I was feeling hot so, I decided to bring my hamster, Maddie out for some fresh air and exercise and run through the sprinkler to cool off. I took Maddie out into the backyard and let her walk around. She walks around and stays around but you have to watch her because she is really fast! For a little while she followed me around I called her and she kept following, she walked from my house to my neighbor’s house and back to my house. To cool down I ran through the sprinkler and Maddie followed. When I was cooled down I put Maddie’s ball over the top of her to keep her safe then I rolled up the hose. I finished rolling the hose, turned around, and Maddie disappeared!! Where could she be!? Under the deck, in the woods, or in the flower garden? Which way did she go?

Maddie’s Point of View

Wow! These leaves are as tall as Mount Everest! I can run so far! This is a great place to explore. Look over there, a giant lake! Wow did a tornado go through here? All of these sticks are down! Must have been a tornado. I wonder where my Mom is. Oh, I here her calling, she must be following me. Oh well, she will catch up!

My Point of View

“Maddie! Maddie! Where are you? Maddie,’’I say again with a catch in my voice. I run over to my neighbor’s house. I need more eyes to find Maddie! The three of us search the yard, the woods and under the deck. We lift up leaves, twigs and branches. We are on our hands and knees looking for a dark brown ball of fur, my little hamster, Maddie.

Maddie’s Pont of View

Wow it feels like I just steeped in quicksand! These leaves are so thick. Wow, it’s pretty comfy. After all my climbing, I think I could snuggle down for a nap. I’m safe here, I can still hear Mom calling, she’s close by. I’m tired; yawn, zzzzzzzzzzzzz…………..

My Point of View

Our search party has searched for Maddie for 4 hours. I’m starting to loose hope. We have turned over every log, lifted every branch, and peeked into every crevice. Searched under the deck with the beam of a flash light, no Maddie. My parents say it’s time to eat. I’m too sad to eat a lot. I don’t think we are going to find Maddie tonight. I keep holding back tears but one escapes down my cheek. After dinner dishes are cleared, I head back outside to continue what feels like a futile search. Since hamsters have such a good sense of smell, I spread buttered popcorn along the edges of the woods and around the deck hoping she will smell it and come back to me. I search and search until darkness falls. With a tear in my eye, I head into the house. “I’m not going to find her.”

Maddie’s Point of View

Wow, what do I smell? Is that my evening snack? It’s pretty dark; I’m pretty hungry after roaming through this big forest. What an adventure! I’ve never traveled this far away from Mom before! I don’t hear her calling me. Where is she? I’m getting a little scared out here by myself. I’ll head for my snack and maybe Mom will be there!

My Point of View

As I instant message my friend saying Maddies gone, I hear a knock on the window. It’s my mom. She’s still on the deck watching for Maddie. I fly out the door. She’s peaking out of the woods! Says my mom. I fly down the stairs and race to grab the little brown ball of fur walking out of the woods know as Maddie!

Maddie’s Point of View

What’s all this excitement? They are laughing, hugging and smiling! Mom keeps me so tight! She missed this wonderful event. It has been a great time! I wonder if I can do this again?
