Saccharine Dream

Gumdrops falling from the skies,
Icing flows, a milky stream;
"Vanity," the Teacher cries,
Every sweetness hollowing.

More rest for the idle soul;
Every sweetness hollowing.

Saccharine dreams, may syrup speak
Over bitter truth, tonight.
Lies have never been so sweet;
Icing flows, a milky stream,
Despairing for the bitter light.
Icing flows, a milky stream,
Taste and see that it is good.
You, too, shall learn how we recite:

"Our Father, hollowed be thy name;" Our
Righteousness like perfumed rags.

Gumdrops falling from the skies,
Icing flows, a milky stream.
"Vanity," the Teacher cries.
Every sweetness hollowing.

More rest for the idle soul;
Every sweetness hollowing.

Drip the sugar down your throat--
Every sweetness hollowing,
After, hunger following.
Taste and see that it is good.
How little have we understood.
