Beans & Chocolate

Sneaking Around

ξ₤≈≈ξ₤≈≈ξ₤≈≈₤ξ

I was sneaking in... Heels in my hands, on tippy-toes, and keys folded in a tight fist to silence them.

Seriously I hadn't snuck in anywhere since I was sixteen, and the only reason why it was being done now was because it was way after four in the morning... And... I had warningly been told by the doorman that my boyfriend had decided to return home early.

When I say early, I literally mean early...

Emmanuel wasn't expected until next week, when his business meeting was supposed to be over. So for him to suddenly pop up had me antsy... I mean, normally, I wouldn't have batted an eyelash, but since our relationship was already on the rocks enough and I had promised not to do anymore late night celebrating with my friends... I was worried how he would react.

Closing the house door with a low click that snapped the automatic lock, I immediately froze in place when a noise traveled from up the hall.

Busted… Busted … Busted…” skipped through my mind.

I just knew my ass was caught as I listened.

Hearing the creaking noise again, I quickly came to realize it was the refrigerator and sighed in relief. Oddly all of this reminded me exactly why I'd given up sneaking in years ago— getting caught wasn't always appealing.

But I really didn't need that reminder right now.

Another noise coming from up the hall caused me to pause and the hushed mantra to flair up again. Half expecting Emmanuel to appear from one of the rooms up the hall, I instead heard another noise that sounded like grunts.

I instantly frowned in confusion, wondering what the hell was that, but somehow already knowing what it was.

Tightly clenching my heel straps, I advanced towards the noises only to stop short at our room door when I heard a female voice and grunt sound through the crack.

I felt sick and dizzy all of a sudden. Like someone had poked a hole in my side and all my air was slowly seeping out.

It wasn't like I was angry per se... Surprised, yes, and with a stomach full of alcohol... that was starting to bubble. Because of that alone, I wanted to turn away and not open the door further.

Hearing a groaned 'Oh, my God' made me push open the door and slowly take in the scene.

I thought I hadn't prepared myself for the sight of what was before me. I thought I would get so angry just seeing my boyfriend fucking someone else that I'd regurgitate all the drinks from earlier. What I hadn't been prepared for was the immediate feeling of laughter that slipped out upon seeing them.

Watching Emmanuel bang some... familiar— very familiar— woman from behind was... “Wow!” I slowly said.

If I had of been a smoker, this would have been a good time to have a cigarette. Somewhat like one of those mafia movies where the guy walks in holding a drink or cigar to see his girl being done by some other guy. Okay, maybe not like that exactly...

Freezing, “Oh, Shit!” were the only words to pop out of Emmanuel's mouth as he realized there was an audience.

“What?” The woman asked, pushing her hair out of her face and turning around.

Immediately I recognized her as Janet, my colleague and supposed-to-be friend. Yeah... Surprised even more, that stupidly made the situation funnier to me. Janet's lips mouthed 'Oh, my God' before she quickly shuffled away from Emmanuel while gathering the sheet around her nude body.

Shaking my head as though I really couldn't believe what was being seen, I snickered. “Wow! Please... don't let me interrupt,” I lightly remarked, resisting the urge to laugh, “suddenly stopping like that could set a guy back for days...”

Giving the both of them a light smile, I turned and walked back up the hall to the kitchen. I severely needed another drink.

My shoes tossed somewhere– the couch I was vaguely sure of– I went in the kitchen and straight to the drink cabinet. Vodka and tonic were the first bottles to come into view. I quickly grabbed the bottles and a small one of gin.

Just as I finished mixing them in a tumbler and started to pour them in a glass, a fully dressed Janet and Emmanuel emerged from the back and uneasily glanced my way.

Ignoring both of them, I lifted the glass and swallowed the drink in one gulp. With a pour of the second glass, I noticed Janet's leave when I heard the front door being locked.

Ready to pour a third when I finished swallowing, the tumbler was snatched from my hands.

“What the hell?” automatically slipped out.

Emmanuel walked to the sink and started to pour the last bit of liquor down the drain. “I think we need to talk,” he stated turning to me.

“We need to talk?” I scoffed. “Now? Right now? Right...” Shaking my head with a laugh, I walked past him towards the living room and smelt the scent of Janet's perfume on him. I felt my stomach lurch and nastily tasted vodka tonic.

Following me, he said, “I'm serious, Gabrielle. We need to talk.”

“There isn't anything to talk about Emmanuel. I get it. I wouldn't give it to you in that position... You had to find someone else to try it out on,” laughingly left my mouth as I moved to the couch and grabbed my shoes.

Turning to face him, I said, “On that note, it's over...” I paused, holding my finger up to my lips in a shush motion when I saw him open his mouth. “Now, I'm gonna leave while you pack your shit and get the fuck out so that later on today when I come back, I don't have to see it. Okay?”

“No, it's not okay..." angrily came from him. "That's exactly why...”

“Why what?" I spun around, not laughing at the situation anymore. "You cheated on me? Oh, that's a good reason!”

“I didn't say that... What happened wasn't meant to! I've never cheated on you before,” he firmly remarked, shaking his head and watching me turn my back on him to pick my keys up from the hall stand.

I cynically smiled and looked back at him, thinking how full of shit he was. “Why do I feel like you're comparing this to getting high and fuckin' up someone's car?”

He looked confused. “What?... If anything I'm comparing this to you hardly being here. You're either at work, out with some friends, or if you're home, you're on the computer.”

“Hum... why, does it sound like what you're saying isn't exactly right?...” I turned around to face him. “Oh, that's right, it isn't. You were the one who was hardly here.”

Here he was sprouting bullshit from his ears and ass and thinking I was actually going to believe what he said... Whoa! Amazing... Ironically, I catch him cheating-- no-- fucking someone when I think I'm going to be caught sneaking in late, and in the end he blames me... How guy like?...

Slowly I took a long look at his hard, clean shaved face, firm chin, partially aquiline nose, and thin lips. The handsomely distinguished features that had drawn me in like a magnet now came off really pathetic to me.

How could I have been stupid enough to go out with him, and then idiotic enough to stay with him for four years?

God! I was stupid!

Going to the door, I said, “Make sure your shit is out of my apartment by time I get back.” Then opening the front door, I left.

As it probably has been noticed, how could it not be, I haven't updated anything in quite some time. To be honest, I lost my writing muse due to how much work I was doing (between my classes, work, and home).

Thankfully after some brain break, I am now finally able to write. Hopefully I'll be making good on my other story. Until then, and between writing that, hopefully this will turn out good.
