This again is a piece of schoolwork. For my poetry coursework I had to analyse Funeral Blues by W H Auden. My teacher gave the entire class a list of key words from the poem and we had to come up with our own unique poem that included as many of these words as possible. As Funeral Blues is about death and loss, I wanted to base my poem on the complete opposite - love. This is how it turned out. Not some of my best work but it isn't bad considering what I was given to work with.
Love
A scribbled note that he penned
I thought this romance would never end
Sneaking out as the clock stuck midnight
Under the moon with its eerie light
The stars shone through our eyes
Whispered words and muffled sighs
A secret code, our special song
We thought nothing could go wrong
Fretting and thinking about what to wear
Did I look good? Would he like my hair?
He’s all I wanted, everything and more
But something’s gone wrong, didn’t see it before
I tried to prevent it, never felt so low
And now my heartache just won’t go
Pour out my soul, dismantle my heart
Sweep up the fragments, its all fell apart
Cut to pieces, crushed on the floor
I’ve got to stop this, can’t take any more
My heart thunders like the beat of a drum
His lies examined in harsh light of sun
No need for talk – his silence says all
I thought it was forever; I was a fool
I was stupid and I lost my head
But now I know, the romance is dead
