"Good evening Sara." The front door shut with a click of the lock.
"Good evening, for security purposes please answer the following question." The voice echoed in the house. "What is Leonard Harland's true occupation?"
"Slave trader." I answered. Screens around the room flashed and turned on as the super computer booted up.
"Good evening Millicent." Sound bars grew and shrunk on the screens. "I would like to search for new interfaces; do I have your permission?"
"Go ahead." I wandered into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator.
"I do hope you did not drive home intoxicated." The digital voice scolded.
"I am NOT drunk." I pulled out some eggs. "I merely have a headache, and I didn't drive home."
"Would you like some aspirin? May I recommend a blood test?" I held my head.
"Just some aspirin." The screen in the fridge ejected a metal arm, carrying two pills. I took them and swallowed them.
"Too much stress can be harmful." The screen flashed and showed a new picture; now it showed a spinning globe. "If you catch a cold it could be inconvenient for both of your jobs."
"What is the schedule for the next two weeks?" I asked.
"Tomorrow you have a photo shoot for a magazine. Friday there is a meeting of the police in Arizona; would you like to attend?"
"Is there anything else close to times on that day?" I racked my head for the answer.
"Negative."
"Yes then." I cracked the egg open with a fork and poured its contents into a bowl. "Continue."
"Saturday there is a signing in Dallas, Texas for your new single. Sunday there is a concert in Austin, Texas. Monday is the flight for Japan in the morning; the rest of that day is free." The voice cracked slightly, causing me to pause my cooking.
"Is there something wrong?" I asked.
"Someone is attempting to hack into our internet signal; I was merely taking care of it." I frowned.
"Amateur?" I questioned.
"I think so. Should I trace?" Sara asked.
"Please do." I continued my frying of my eggs, adding some cheese lightly. My head pounded a little more and I put my fingers to my temples, massaging them.
"Incoming phone call, it's Phil." Sara paused, "should I let it through?" I sighed, annoyed now at the persistent man.
"I guess I have to face him sometime. Yes, put him through. Speaker please." I paused as I waited for him.
"Hello?" I asked the room.
"Hey, Millie!" I glared at the nickname. "How's it going?" he didn't wait for an answer. "I was wondering if I could come over tonight." I sighed.
"That would be a no, Phil." I scraped the eggs out of the pan before they burnt. I swung around in my kitchen and put the hot pan under cool water.
"Aw, c'mon Millie!" he chuckled, "don't be so harsh baby!" I ignored him.
"Sorry Phil, but I'm not feeling my best and unless you want my fans to murder each other then I suggest you let my finish up my dinner and go to bed." I paused slightly, "good night." I heard a sigh and then the line went dead. I sighed myself and went to the couch with my eggs.
"We could try that new phone interference program on him." Sara said. I smirked. "Is that a-a" suddenly the voice stopped and the lights blackened. I stood quickly, heading for my kitchen. I pulled a knife out of the drawer and went to a different room; all the while keeping my senses sharp and cautious.
"Hello Millicent, it's been awhile hasn't it." I whipped around and faced the silhouette. I didn't need the lights to see the evil sneer on its face. I also didn't need the light to recognize who my enemy was, and that was what was so dangerous about it.
