Epilogue – Layne's POV

Layne's POV

I stood by the window. The night was nearing it's end. Behind me Elizabeth lay in a bed and slept. She didn't know it yet, but she had saved mankind and the vampires. Sure, the last page had been burned, but my father had remembered an old tradition in our family: Every count makes copies of the oldest books in the library. That was what he had been looking for the whole time. The copy of 'The Path to Redemption'. And he had found it. In the night after the vampire hunter and Elizabeth had been here. The last page of the copy was not missing and it was perfectly readable.

Behind me Elizabeth turned around in her sleep. I smiled.

The first sun rays of the new day fell into the room. One of them fell on a book lying on a small table. The last page was opened. It said in baroque handwriting:

Blood, given in love,
taken at full moon,
at the Tree of Life,
frees those who are not dead
and not alive
from their thirst for blood
and their fear of light

So this is it. I hope you liked it. Before anybody asks: I have started a sequel two years ago. One year ago, I took it the bit I had back out and rewrote it from scratch. I still haven't gotten over the first couple of chapters and I doubt I ever will. Sorry...
