Cutting

Contemplate the silence

That sucks the life from your parched throat

Screams crawl up the windpipe

Howling like the wretched dead

But you open your mouth

And nothing escapes

Her lips are warm as they split

Salty-tasting lipstick

Hands embrace one last time

As a knife severs their bond

A ribbon of crimson flows from the skin

Marking a path for the razorblade’s second swipe

It’s done. It’s done…

Her imaginary fingers lock around my wrist

Holding me in place as the nail

Pierces stone flesh that glimmers

With acid rain and broken light

The eyes see a hazy world

As the veins weep

No…not her. Go away.

The door’s locked

Light is off and you’re left to your demons

The broken mirror highlights

The bottle of pills in your right hand

Tall glass of water in your left

Swallow down so many, more then the doctor ordered

You lose count as the water disappears, the pills deplete

Too late to cure this breaking heart

You’ve signed the death row pardon

With your life—in blood red ink

Two minutes too late

I’ll plunge into the heat …finally quell the fire in your eyes

The sirens are left to scream her injustice.
