Chapter Five
Kyle walked in to his History class later that day and sat in the front row. He didn't care about any of his classes until he reached this one. He knew that he would be meeting Meagan's mom, even though she was only his History teacher. He was still honored because he got to see his new teacher and Meagan in the same block.
The bell rang and Meagan walked in a few seconds later. Her eyes were red and puffy. Kyle knew she had been crying. She sat next to one of two empty seats, the three rows behind Kyle. She placed her head on the desk. Kyle turned his attention back to the teacher that was now taking attendance.
"Meagan?"
Kyle looked back at Meagan and saw her raise her hand. He looked back forward. When he heard the door open, he looked towards it and was not expecting to see what he saw. Joseph walked in and looked at the group of students. He looked at the teacher and gave her his schedule. Mrs. Alexander examined it and gave it back to him.
"Okay Joseph. Take a seat next to Kyle, right there in the front," Mrs. Alexander said.
Joseph looked at Kyle and then the empty seat. He walked over to it and sat down. He turned his attention back to the teacher. Kyle just looked at him. Joseph felt the glare and looked to his right at an anger Kyle. He smirked. Kyle never wanted to wipe the smirk off of any man's face until that very moment. He turned his attention back to Mrs. Alexander as she began to speak.
"Welcome to World History. Some of you are freshman, and I welcome you to the school and this class. For those of you who are not freshman, let us hope that this will be the last time that you will have to take this class," Mrs. Alexander said cheerfully after taking a seat on her desk. "I'm one of those teachers who don't believe in name games. I feel as though they are a waste of time. Sure, you might play them in other classes but I'm not really into that. I know it makes a lot of you feel uncomfortable."
There was almost-silent cheering coming from the back of the room. This made the teacher smile.
"But, you will be given an assignment."
This caused many people to groan. Kyle smiled to himself. He loved doing schoolwork. History just happened to be another one of his favorite subjects.
"I will be assigning partners for a project. You are required to research anything from world history, whether it be across the world or even in your backyard. Once you have all of your information, you must make a poster that describes this event and give a short presentation." She walked being her desk and picked up her attendance and went to the first name on the list. "Meagan?"
Meagan looked at her mother. She knew what was coming.
Meagan looked at Joseph who was now looking at her with a smirk on his face. He knew that Meagan wanted him and Meagan hated him for making her look like a fool. She looked at Kyle who was smiling a friendly smile. She smiled back. "I'll partner with Kyle."

Kyle walked into the cafeteria later that day with Meagan by his side. He was happy to be one of the last people to walk in as opposed to the previous day when he was always first. He went to the crowded lines and grabbed a tray. Once his identification card was scanned, he headed to an empty table. The minute he sat down, Meagan joined him.
"So, what would you like to research," Kyle asked opening up his carton of milk.
Meagan looked at him. She had to smile. Kyle made her life so much easier and he was sweet and friendly. She could really imagine herself staying friends with him for a while.
"I don't know," she said looking down at her tray of food. "How about you come over to my house tonight and we can talk more about it?"
