“When You Go Away, the Rat Comes to Play”

I miss him. Oh! I miss him, although it shouldn’t be true!

I’m missing him so much, but oh, I should be missing you.

You took a stand and held my hand and prob’ly miss me, too!

My dearest dear, if you were here, I’d know not who to woo.

My heart is thumpingthumping like the day it thumped for you.

Our song was sung, but we’re so young, so yellow-mixed-with-blue.

I put to use a lame excuse that we were much too new.

And, dearest me, I cannot see I even had a clue.

We’re green, we’re green! We MUST be green!

I trytrytrytrytry

To tell myself that it was just a ninety minute fly,

For now, this new one’s in my mind, and I cannot see why

The pain is here—and so, I fear that guilt has made me cry.
