Insomnia

It was such a beautiful object. I smiled down at my newly found possession and hugged it tightly to my chest. I slowly observed its sleek handle and savored the feeling of the cold metal against my sweaty palms. It was perfect.

“Marley, what’s your favorite color?” Brian had once asked me. I never replied to his question. There was no point; I had no desire in selecting useless colors that were set to describe my personality. But now, as I gazed lovingly at the small object that lay innocently on lap, I decided that it was the color of metal that I preferred. Yes, metallic silver would be my favorite color.

“You’ll go to hell...,” The bastard muttered, shattering my thoughts in an irritating manner.

Slowly I turned my body to meet his incriminate brown eyes and smirked.

“Don’t worry I’ll join you when my time comes. I promise you won’t be lonely,” He glared at me and released a stream of impolite words only to be overruled by my voice.

“Besides,” I continued “after all those naughty sins you’ve committed you should be thanking me.” I watched as he gradually lifted himself into a sitting position. He winced as he accidentally shifted his injured shoulder in an uncomfortable position.

I laughed. He reminded me of a donkey the way his gray bearded jaw protruded out as he hissed in pain in the most hideous manner. “It’s for the best that I do this.”

“D-don’t do this. P-please, I didn’t mean it...,” he stuttered.

I contemplated his useless words and paused before I made my way over to him. The poor man was struck speechless as I came and kneeled over him. I pulled at the bottom of my dress and tugged harshly until I heard the sound of the fabric being forced away from the rest of the garment.

“Here,” I wiped the blood from his cheeks. “You look like a mess. It’s not proper to be in such a state in front of a lady.”

He froze at the contact and looked up at me. “Is your shoulder numb?” he nodded in an impaired manner. “The entire arm? Can you feel anything?” he shook his head, confirming my thoughts.

I looked down at the beautiful piece of metal that lay obsolete near my feet and attached it to the man’s hand and pressed it toward his chest.

“Here, you can have my new toy.” I smiled.

“N-no,” He pleaded as I leaned over and planted a kiss on his cheek. “S-stop. STOP!”

“G’bye,” I whispered and pressed his index finger into the trigger.

The exhilarating sound of the blast echoed inside my ears and I sighed in deep content and stood up. My dress was torn and stained with dirt and blood. It was then that I felt the trickle of blood streaming down my face. It wasn’t mine.

I screamed.

I stared at the wall, the small golden daisies mocking me as my amber eyes moved to the next column of flowers.

‘thirty-two, thirty-three sunflowers on the friggin’ wall, thirty-four fuckin’ sunflowers on the-’

“You’re still awake? For Christ’s sake, Marley. Go to sleep,” Brian commanded, leaning his muscular body against the doorway of the guestroom I currently occupied. He frowned as he scratched the back of his neck while cradling a newspaper and a glass of water in the other hand.

I lifted my head and scowled, “I can’t sleep. I don’t sleep. You should know that by now.”

“...is it because of him?”

I avoided his eyes and tucked the loose, golden strands that escaped my braid.

“It is, isn’t it?” I didn’t answer. Instead I focused on my surroundings. The wallpaper in this room was hideous. The color was a disgusting piss yellow while the sunflowers were a bright orange the size of cabbages. I’d have to tell Brian to do some major redecorating in this room.

Brian sighed and ran his fingers through his chestnut hair in clear frustration.

“He’s dead, sweets. Don’t worry about him,” he softly assured me while tucking me back in as if I were a child frightened by the monster in the closet. At the moment, you could pretty much say I was.

“He can’t hurt you,” he whispered tenderly and pressed his lips against my forehead.

He can in my dreams,’ I wanted to say but chose to keep quiet. Besides, Brian has work in the morning and he doesn’t need a wussy teen on his hands.

“G’night, Mars. Get some sleep, ok?” I nodded.

I sighed and turned my attention back on the walls that entrapped me.

‘One sunflower, two sunflowers on the wall, three sun-fuckin’-flowers on the wall...’

A/N: Ok so I know that this isn’t the most PERFECT thing in the world and it’s short. AND It hasn’t been edited or anything. It’s just something I dug out from a while ago and I was contemplating whether I should morph this into a story or not. So please review and let me know what you lovely darlings think. Thanks!!
