I Know a Girl…

I know a girl

Braver than the hero of any tale,

Her only weapon is her will to live,

And so she will never fail.

She’s never done anything,

You could label as horribly wrong.

She’s loyal and she’s sweet,
And her laughter is filled with song.

This summer the doctors told her

That cancer had come to stay.

They told her she’d better hang tight,

‘Cause there is no easy way.

Her chemo starts this morning,

I found out just last night.

And though she may lose her hair,

She’s not going to lose this fight.

When it comes to bodily pain,

I haven’t got a clue.

I can only imagine

What she’ll be going through.

If there’s any way I could help her,

I’d be running to her side.

I’d welcome her requests

With eager arms opened wide.

As it is, I can’t fix her,

Can’t make her healthy and well.

I can’t fight away her monster,

And chase it back to hell.

I can only feel helpless,

I can only kneel and pray,

I can only hope many years from now,

I’ll still be able to say;

I know a girl

Braver than the hero of any tale,

Her only weapon is her will to live,

And so she will never fail.
