New story yay!! Erm, reviews would be loved . . . two before I continue . . . . yees enjoy!!
Prologue
'My hands caught the edge of the broken table. I was surrounded by a circle of light, for now I was safe. The second the sun disappeared behind the cloud, I would be open to an attack. My fingers curled around the trigger. Senses seemed to burn in my head. The musk of the dusty room twisted into my nostrils, giving me a sharp headache.
Half of the circle of was gone, the large bazooka type object flew into the perfect position, I didn’t let my eyes off the dark shadow positioned in the corner. Technically what I was about to do was inhumane, so I was only going to do it when it became self defence.
That thing killed your family, I told myself. It didn’t deserve to live, none of them did. They were murders.
Shadows killed by encasing the victim in darkness, after which, I have no idea what happens, as nothing remains, just people’s memories of that person. My husband and two children had been killed by these cruel things. I could still see their faces in my head. It pained me that my last memory was of the tears rolling down their cheeks.
Life had been normal until the first shadow broke free, normally they had to stay connected to a human to live, but one discovered a way to escape. It managed to consume its previous ‘owner’, it drifted in and out of cities, taking new shadows with it. All I knew was that it was evil, pure evil.
Suddenly, the shadow lurched forward, I directed the machine in my hands at it and fired. The high concentrated light beam blinded the creature, it slowly disappeared into oblivion. I dropped the large object and ran to the bookcases, finally I had found it.
My feet lead me back to the position under the skylight, I flicked through the pages of the book. The large inscription was held in a large italic font. I aimed my light beam at the page. Suddenly the room was filled with light, I had done it. All the shadows had been banished into the shadow realms.
I Kayla Daisy Edwards, had saved the world. A figure appeared from behind the curtain. A flurry of dark hair appeared by my side. Tears bled into my clothes. It was Jade, my youngest daughter.
“Mummy,” she cried. I held her tight, inside I was being reborn, it was a new beginning.
“Jade Emily Rebecca Edwards dry those eyes!” I smiled, my daughter beamed back at me. She was safe. It was now our families job to keep everyone safe, forever.'
