People of the World
There go the people of the world,
Laughing and smiling as if everything's alright,
Do you see the people of the world,
Who laugh and smile even when everything's wrong?
A young girl dressed in school clothes,
Bobbing her heard to the music,
Oblivious to the world.
Her thoughts run wild,
She wants to break down into tears.
Her head bobs to the music,
And her lipsticked lips mouth the lyrics
But inside her thoughts run wild
And she bobs her head to the music.
A well dressed man
With a small black suitcase.
He stares out of the window
With a smile on his face,
But inside he worries of his world falling apart,
And he stares out the window
With a smile on his face
Even as his world falls apart.
And do you see the people of the world,
As they go along putting on a facade?
A mother with two of her children,
She sit down and her eyes flit
Between her two children.
She smiles and nods
But inside her heart is sinking
And she wants to cry.
But she smiles and nods,
As her heart sinks,
She smiles and nods.
A young child holding onto his mother's hand
Carrying a small bag on his back.
Listening to his mother's reassurances
His heart beats faster.
He acts unafraid
But inside he wants to cry.
Inside he's terrified.
Outside he acts unafraid,
And inside he wants to cry.
And so go the people of the world
Laughing and smiling as if everything's okay,
And hiding everything deep inside.
Do you see the people of the world
As they laugh and smile while everything goes wrong?
A/N: Poem inspired by all the regular people who go on my bus...especially that old guy who looked really, really upset. Even though I don't know them, and they sure as hell don't know me, thank you for inspiring me bus people.
