Chapter 12: Secret’s Out
No sooner did he kiss me when I felt something strange. My body was becoming intensely hot but not in a good way. My palms were becoming sweaty and my breath felt hard to regulate. I was being pulled under. Like I was swimming in water and then all of a sudden I was drowning. Millions of thoughts were surrounding me and I had no clue what to do with the half of them. Then abruptly everything went black and I was beginning to receive flashes of the events that happened today.
It was at the Battle of the Bands. I realized soon that I was not myself but rather in another person’s body. Landon’s body to be exact. He seemed to be tense. His thoughts were disorganized. I found his demeanor to be on edge. There was something concerning him that made him begin to worry. If he had a choice he would have liked to shake whatever gave him such discomfort.
His eyes shifted quickly amongst the crowd. Although the distance was far, because we were still in the tent, it didn’t mess with his line of vision. It was perfect. For a second it seemed like his vision was even better than the perfect 20/20 if that were possible.
As his eyes were scanning the crowd coming back everything stopped abruptly. Abashed I caught Alex on the outside perimeter of the stage and he wasn’t alone. In fact, he was with a girl and they were making out. My body cringed when I saw this. I had a few thoughts of my own but they weren’t the same ones that came to mind. I reminded myself that I was in someone else’s body; therefore, I would be experiencing their thoughts rather than my own.
What a nerve that kid has coming here! Who invited him anyway? The kid better have enough common sense to stay away from her. Then again I doubt he even has the
guts to show up with a different girl at his side.
My body began to tense up. Only this time it felt like something was going to happen to me. I closed my eyes. There was this change erupting throughout. It was a tingling feeling inside of me. It was becoming stronger and stronger and then randomly it stopped. I opened my eyes. Whipping them around to see what was going on. Sean and Adam had a hold of me.
They needed the two of them to keep me where I was because when I was focused and determined on something especially when I was angry I could phase. Or transform whatever you wanted to call it. They thought I was stupid enough to make a scene. But I knew better. All I wanted to do was talk to the kid. Once I got my anger under control of course. Make sure he had things straight. See what lines he could and could not cross with her…with me.
Sean and Adam held their place. They didn’t believe me. When I showed them my anger had resided and my nerves calm they unwilling let me go. I gave them an annoyed glance.
As quickly as it went the vision was gone. Everything went black again. Then seconds later I was beginning to see color. Slowly it was coming back to me where I was. I was in the parking lot and Landon was kissing me. I opened my eyes and pushed him away but where my hand had landed to push him away I felt something press against my palm. It hurt. I looked angrily as I tried to figure out what it was that caused me such pain. As Landon let go of me I saw that it was a necklace. The same necklace as the one Guy had. I thought that was unusual but I was too concerned with more important things.
“What…what was that….what did I just see?” I asked shaking. Slowly I was creating a distance between him and myself.
“Liz, listen. It’s not what you think. It was nothing.” He began to walk toward me as he talked in what I saw as an attempt to speak in a soothing voice.
“No. No, it’s not nothing. How did I see that? How did you know? I just told you about…about Alex…how do you know him? Why did I see that?” I was scared. What was this? What was he? What just happened?
“Landon, stop! Stop it!” Audrey was yelling while she was running over to us with Sean. They both looked angry.
“You idiot, you just couldn’t wait could you?” Sean was walking toward us now. With one hand he grabbed Landon by the shoulder and turned him around. Without another word Landon left.
As the two went in Sean’s car they drove slow as they approached us.
Audrey nodded as if in agreement to something Sean was about to say. “I know. I’ll handle it.” She said as the car passed us with the window rolled down. He took this into confirmation and the two drove off. Landon continued to keep his face ahead never meeting my gaze.
My sister then turned her attention to me. “Let’s go Liz. We have to get back. Mom and dad just called and they aren’t too happy that we’re going to be late. Come on.”
I stood there. “No, I’m not going anywhere.”
“What? Why not?” She huffed.
“Audrey, what just happened?”
She glanced to the side and then looked back at me and shook her head. “I don’t know.”
“Tell me what just happened.”
“I told you I don’t know.”
“Yes, you do.” I said. My back was no longer toward her. I was face to face with her now.
“Alright,” she said reluctant. “Alright, I’ll tell you. First you have to get in the car though. It’s a long story and we can’t waste anymore time standing here.”
“Fine, but you will tell me when we get inside the car.”
After the engine had started and we were on the road Audrey began to speak.
“Okay. This isn’t exactly how I planned to tell you this. Stupid Landon he ruined everything. Anyway, listen there’s something I’d like to try. It’d be easier for me and definitely easier for you if we do it this way.”
When she saw the puzzled look on my face she reached for something around her neck. It looked like it was a locket shaped into a wing. The locket was medium sized and gold. Diamonds were displayed in the front. The diamonds color was sunstone. She gestured for me to hold on to the wheel. Immediately, I did as commanded for we were beginning to drift to the other side of the road.
The necklace was off and she returned her hands to the wheel. “Here, take this,” she said handing over her necklace. “Put this on and close your eyes. You’ll understand things better this way.”
She noticed a hint of doubt on my face. “Please,” she begged. “Just do it. I promise this isn’t a trick or anything. You have to trust me Liz…”
So I did. I put the necklace on, but took a second before I closed my eyes to take a deep breath.
