"love in time grows stagnant"
insects - 10 years

We have outlived passion, the grunting between silk sheets. The savory feel of flesh on flesh, sharing sweat. We have outlived parted lips that spout hints of adoration and sweet sighs; loving words that bite heated skin and delight straining ears. His palm has not brushed against the apple of my cheek in what feels like decades, and I have not tasted the certainty on his lips in an eternity.

But I still know them. The memory might be a little dusty, but I'm sure that if he ever pressed them against mine, I would still be able to follow his intricate movements and mold to them perfectly. Like pieces of a puzzle; a key and a lock.

The key doesn't fit any more, though; the puzzle pieces have been lost.

We live in the same house, occupy the same void, but we have not seen each other since we were newlyweds, and all of this was new and rich. And beautiful.

Time turns the most fragile things into dust. Love is no different.

Written while listening to Massive Attack, specifically "Inertia Creeps", "Butterfly Caught", and "Teardrop". And, of course, 10 Years helped inspire this, too.
