London's Countryside, England 1892

Another day to be spent in hiding. This was all the children could think about as their mother hurries them through the trap door in the basement.

"Elizabeth? Where's Elizabeth?"

The mother looks over the children frantically counting as she does. A scream pierces the cold day's air.

"Oh no Elizabeth!"

The mother shuts the door quickly and runs up the stairs pulling the rug back over the door as she goes. At the top of the stairs a young girl stands frozen her hazel eyes locked on the figure before her. Her light brown hair sways softly in the wind from the open door. The mother throws herself between the intruder and her stunned daughter.

"Go Elizabeth run!"

The young girl stands and stares at her mother in shock.

"Elizabeth Anne Conway get out of here now!"

The young girl finally snaps out of her trance-like state and runs for the basement door. The man moves to grab her, but the mother stands in his way. The young girl turns around just in time to see the man draw his gun and shoot her mother.

"No mummy!"

The mother's eyes stare at the girl unseeing as her lifeless body falls to the floor. The girl looks at the man before turning to run once more, but she's too late. He catches a lock of her hair, as her feet hit the second step, and pulls her back towards him. She stumbles back and falls against the top step. Tears stain her pale freckled cheeks as the man pulls her to her feet. She mutters a quick prayer as he drags her out the door into the cold, snowy winter's day. The girl doesn't fight or struggle as her mind slips into shock. The man takes no notice of the fragile shivering girl, but instead throws her into the back of a waiting carriage, mumbling something about money. The young girl, of only ten watches silently, as her home fades away into the countryside scenery taking what was once her life with it.
