Prologue

No matter how hard we try how hard we work or how hard we sweat, life is never as easy as we wish it to be. There will always be someone better, someone stronger or someone smarter. Like wild wolves in a pack, we follow those that prove themselves to be the best; we take anything they throw at us. Weather it be food or abuse, because we know that being alone and fending for ourselves is worst. We crave for attention, for someone to acknowledge our existence, but scorn those that are different.

Over time you forget the rules of life and start to play God. As you go against Mother Nature and call yourselves the superior race, civilised, you forget who your betters are. Us.

Those of us who move in the shadows, watching your every move, and waiting for the time to turn you back into the prey you are. To turn you back into the food source you used to be. For you to take your rightful place below us; below me. Those who knew the truth and made stories to warn you of us, you called crazy and the truths became nothing but make-believe before turning into bedtime stories to scare young children into behaving. Although you don’t acknowledge us, we are still here; both the good and the bad, making deals with each other to protect our beloved and families, following the wishes of our betters.

How do I know all this? Well, it’s simple. I’ve seen them, all of them, the monsters from your nightmares and the beings from your fairy tales. I’ve also seen the horrors they can cause, crimes so horrid you would never believe me.

How we’ve lived and stayed hidden this long is simple. We understand the rules of nature far better then you ever could. For someone to live, someone else must die. The world we live in is one that only the strongest can survive in.

Now as I look back at my life story I only wish I had know what was to happen. Maybe then I would have done things differently. But as my mate, my alpha always tells me, we don’t live in the past. What has happened, happened for a reason, reasons we might never know. We will morn the passing of time but only for a short while before we live life as we always have.
