Now with the world’s energy future secure, politics drove the way. The UN managed to drive Iran back to it’s 2000 territory and the middle east was recreated. The land of Saudi Arabia was now expanded to hold Yemen, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Kuwait and Iraq were reestablished as a territory of the UN, and The dominance of other powers was decreased. But, by 2055, the realization of global warming started to cause global concern. Major occurrences were happening to often to consider ‘occasional’. Iran, low in military forces and needing new land further north to escape the impending high temperatures, mobilized its remaining armed forces and prepared its nuclear arsenal for a military offensive to occupy the Caucasus states and the Russian Caucasus up to the city of Volgograd, where it could make peace with Russia in return for Russian-controlled ports to be built on the Persian Gulf. But when Iranian forces entered the Russian Caucasus, Russia immediately retaliated with it’s nuclear arsenal and began the Russian-Iranian war of 2055. It did not end until 2059, when both countries were forces to end due to lack of military forces, and the new border was set at Tabriz, where the Russian-Iranian borderline was set. (The Caucasus states were not recreated)

As time progressed, smog started filling the air of many cities, and almost all of the 20 largest cities in the world had to distribute gas masks to their citizens. Some cities, like Dhaka in Bangladesh, could not distribute gas masks to its citizens, but and Dhaka, including many cities in Bangladesh, was already doomed by the rising sea. By 2070, the world was on edge. Sea levels were flooding many cities, and the Gulf of Mexico was being devastated by hurricanes. Sea levels were by now were 10 feet higher then they were in 2000, and famine was causing food shortages and wars. (wars were only in Africa, though) Once again, this time was predicted by scientists all the way back to the 1970s, nearly a hundred years before. And even though they were wrong on timing, the events that would occur they were wrong.

By 2090, more then 30 years after the crisis had begun, sea levels had topped 40 feet and were not stopping. NASA no longer existed ever since the energy crisis of 2030, and the government cancelled American spaceflight until further notice back then. Now, some people in the government suggested that humanity should abandon earth now, knowing how the climate would eventually make human life on earth impossible. The problem was that the only launch pad that was easily available to the newly created ASP, or American Spaceflight Program, was Kennedy Space Center. The problem was that it was underwater, so Edwards Air Force Base (AFB) was modified to suit space launches.

It was not until 2098 when ASP launched it’s first mission, using a NERVA nuclear shuttle, first proposed over 100 years before in 1972. 3 years later, the ISS was finally repaired after being abandoned for over 80 years since 2009. Man was now reentering the space age.
