"Infidelity can be defined as any violation of the mutually agreed-upon rules or boundaries of a relationship, and is a breach of faith in an inter-personal relationship."

Amy’s POV

“You slept with another woman, how could you?” I hurled a book across the room at him

“You started it! You went and slept with that cursed Irish boy because I was TALKING to another woman, heaven forbid my attention should be anywhere else but on you!” He ducked, roaring back across the living room.

“I most certainly did not sleep with him! He came on to me and I rejected him you retard!” I threw a shoe at him, all my anger bursting out.

“I never took you for a liar Ami, my best friend saw you!” He ducked again.

“Jared, didn’t it ever occur to you that he was lying?!”

“He’s my best friend.”

“So immediately he is abolished of any sins?!”

“He wouldn’t lie. Not about this.”

“Neither would I Jared, I love you, you silly bastard!”

“Well maybe I don’t feel the same anymore.” Jared spat out.

“So you pick some slut that you slept with once over me?”

He looked down, uncertainty filling his eyes. I was shocked; was this really my Jared? The man who I loved more than life itself?

“It’s over,” I whispered, grabbing my bag.
“This can’t be it,” His blue eyes begged me not leave.
“You don’t love me anymore, so why should I stay?” I reasoned, biting my lip.
He opened his mouth but decided to close it again.
“I’m sure she can love you much better than I can anyway,” I spat defiantly.
He looked up, staring me straight in the eye, guilt evident in his face.
“She doesn’t even know I exist,” He mumbled pathetically.
I fought back the tears and locked his face with my shaking hands drawing him in until our lips touched; he parted his lips instantly, for a moment I was lost in the action regaining my senses I fought Jared back.
“At least you don’t have to pretend to enjoy that anymore,” I grabbed my bag and walked out the door, not quite sure when the tears had fallen.

--

Jared’s POV.

I rubbed my lips as she walked out the door, her sweet taste lingering. I realised there would be no turning back now; I had to find ‘her’.
I had fallen for another woman and I didn’t even think it was possible. She was beautiful, sophisticated and smart. We met at a office party; Ami forced me to go. It was bearable because Dean, my best friend, was there; he works as a secretary. He was the one who introduced me to ‘her’ as his boss; she was one of the sexiest women I’d ever seen.

--

“This is my boss Vivenne Fox.” Dean smiled and indicated a beautiful blonde in her early thirties who had the curves of a supermodel.
“Nice to meet chu...” She had a slight french accent; Vivienne turned her head towards Dean, her dark green eyes waiting.
“Oh yes that’s right!” Dean blushed pushing his glasses up clumsily. “This is my best friend, Jared Way.”
“Nice to meet chu; Jered.” Vivienne nodded her head, Jared noticed how brilliant her smile was.
“Nice to meet you too ‘oh beautiful one’.” Jared winked playfully, that earnt him a laugh from Vivienne.
Dean shook his head and muttered. “She’s my boss you know.”
“Oh, zis is why you don’t get payrizes.” Vivienne smiled and tapped Dean’s head lightly.

We all erupted into laughter and that’s when I spotted Ami standing close by her face as cold as stone. I turned wanting to tell Ami I was only kidding, but instead found her talking to an attractive man; her back facing me. I got the message and continued talking to Vivienne, jealousy eating away at me; when I tried to find Ami again, she was gone.

--

I was still talking to Vivienne when Dean approached me, a guilty and unsure look upon his face.
“What’s up man?” I smiled still scanning the room for Ami.
“You seen Ami?” Dean winced lightly.
“No, that’s why I’m looking for her,” I continued scanning.
“Don’t bother,” He winced again.
“Why?” I looked sharply at Dean’s face.
“She went home with that guy she was with and I saw him grab a pack of condoms. I’m sorry man,” Dean stared at me with a concerned look on his face.
My insides boiled over; who was this guy? How long have they been together? Why was she doing this to me?
Dean pushed a beer into my hand, and I downed it in one gulp. I forgot how many beers followed after that.

--

“Weee all livvee inn thee yeelloww suuubbmarrinee!” I giggled taking off my jacket and dancing until I fell flat on the floor. Someone helped me up, grateful to lean against something I fell onto them and felt a familiar groan.
“Stand up Jared.” Dean whined pushing me against a wall, I felt sick and light headed and proceeded to coo over the ceiling.
“Aww aren’t you pretty prettty, yeess youu aree.” I grinned stupidly up at the ceiling; my headache was getting worse so I banged my head against the wall...it felt a little better.
“Oh please! I’m sorry Vivienne; I’ll take him home now!” Dean pulled me off the ground unbalanced I fell back onto the floor.
I faintly noted in the back of my head that Vivienne was still there probably having a good time watching me be an idiot. Dean’s phone rang and there was a moment of silence while I closed my eyes and let my head spin.
“Oh god...no way!” Dean rubbed the tip of his nose in distress.
“What’s zi mattur?” Vivienne’s voice was velvety and feminine, it made me smile inwardly.
“I have to go back and fix up a report or I’m going to get a warning.” Dean made a face and looked down worriedly at my motionless body. “What should I do!”
“Iz okay. You go ahead, I vill take him home.” Vivienne made ushering movements and as Dean’s phone started to vibrate again he gave in and with one last look at me he ran off.

--

“Where dew you live?” Vivienne was quite strong for a woman holding up most of my weight, I could faintly smell her perfume. Chanel No.5? It was the same one Ami used. “Where dew you live?” Her voice was so beautiful.
“I love you too.” I managed to giggle out.

After a while Vivienne dropped me against the wall of an alleyway, even superwoman couldn’t carry me for long. Sighing she sat down next to me, I took note of that. She wasn’t one of those picky, perky, neat freak and clean freak office women who wouldn’t even sit down on a park bench without tissues. My head felt heavy so I leaned it against her shoulder; the next few minutes past in a quiet silence.
“Your girlviend...” Vivienne talked softly as if it was a sin to break the quietness.
“Mm. What about her?” Anger rose in my voice and it was hard to push it down.
“Vat happened?” Vivienne was shifting I lifted my hand to make her still, she was a surprisingly good headrest.
“Mmm. I don’t want to talk about it.” She had very large breasts...
“I’m veri sorry.” Vivienne put her arm around me as if attempting to comfort me.
“Nah...it’s alright.” She had nice legs too...
“Umm...I could call a tazi?” Vivienne reached for her phone.
“No!” The word came out before I could comprehend it, slowly I realised I just wanted to spend time with someone; alone in my house thinking about Ami was too painful to think about. “I...want to sit a little longer.”
“Okay.” Vivienne rested her head against the wall again; I listened to her heartbeat and smelled her perfume. Ba-dump, Ba-dump, Ba-dump.
“You look zick.” Vivienne’s voice sounded worried but I could no longer make out what she was saying.

Ba-dump, Ba-dump, Ba-dump. I trailed my hand against her leg I felt it stiffen for a few seconds and then relax...strange she didn’t push me away.
“You look ill.” Vivienne tried again.
Ba-dump, ba-dump, ba-dump. I trailed my hand higher it was reaching her dress and I played with the lace.
“I...I vill call a ta...mmmm” Was that a moan?
Vivienne gave me the courage and I slid my hand up against her upper thigh until I had lifted up most of her skirt revealing, wow is that a...g-string? With that Vivienne gasped and turned around to straddle my legs. I looked up into her mesmerising green eyes...were older women always this hot? She had a smirk on her face and a blush on her cheeks, so she had some decent wine as well. There was something I was forgetting... something, something important, what was it again? Vivienne was lowering her face and arching her back showing me a great view of her huge cleavage.
“Jeerredd.” She purred.
Something I was forgetting...something.
“Jeerreddd.” Vivienne had her lips against my neck and she was slowly making hickeys, such a skilled mouth I wonder what it would be like to have that against my...there’s something important I’m forgetting!
Frustrated at myself I closed my eyes trying to think with my scrambled brain but Vivienne mistook the action as a reflex of pleasure and started to unbuckle my belt. I tried to pry her hands away there was something I had to remember before all this; before...

There was a distant scream of a car horn but then Vivienne’s lips reached mine and all thoughts were completely non-existant. There was a hurry to unbuckle my belt and I almost whipped Vivienne in the action of trying to help her. We exchanged passionate kisses as we worked at each other’s body forgetting completely that there was a road a couple steps away. I never knew a g-string was that hard to get off but in a heartbeat we were rocking up against each other, body in body.
“Aaah! Jerredd!” Why was her french accent so sexy?
The movements got harder, faster. Harder! Faster!
“HHhhaaarrdderr! Haarrdderr Jerredd, Harrdderr!” Vivienne was screaming and I was obeying.
“Aaah!” With a gasp of pleasure it was over.

Only then did I realise how cold the night was and how heated and raw was the body against me. So beautiful and so perfect and she smelled like...that’s right Chanel No.5. As I recovered one word lifted from my memories; ‘Ami’...yeah that’s right. That’s what it was...

Ami’s POV

Another one of those damn office parties. I hated them with a passion, but I had to go otherwise my boss would be pissed. I walked around with Jared’s arm around my waist, socialising and drinking champagne. I giggled to Jared that if he was sleeping with my boss he wouldn’t have to come to these things, he just laughed and rolled his eyes. Then we met Her. Easily the most attractive woman in the room, a gorgeous blonde with green eyes and a killer body. As soon as she spoke with a charming French accent, I knew she had Jared under her spell. My temper flared, but I tried to remain calm on the surface. I removed Jared’s arm from around my waist and proceeded to look for more champagne, but was interrupted by an attractive man with almost hypnotic eyes.

“Well hullo there, beautiful lady,” the man spoke with an enchanting Irish accent.
“Hi there,” I smiled at him, feeling Jared’s eyes burn into the back of my head.
“Would you like to take a walk?” the man offered his arm to me, grinning in the most charming way.
“Sure,” I took his arm as he led me to the balcony.
“You have a lovely accent,” I said, looking out at the view.
“Why thank you,”
“I’m Ami, by the way,”

“Jared’s girlfriend?”
“Yeah, I think so.”
“Think so?”
“He’s kinda being hypnotised by the runway model of the west.”
He chuckled, “Jealous?”
“Who wouldn’t be?”
“You shouldn’t, she’s only more attractive because she realises how beautiful she is; you don’t.”
“Well.. Thank you, I guess.”
“My name is Chase, by the way.”
“Is that a real name?”
“Sadly so.”

We both laughed. Chase reached out and tucked a stray hair behind my ear, watching for my reaction. I blinked and went back to staring out at the city of Edinburgh in all its night-time glory.
“I should really go back in,” I started to walk towards the door.
“No!” Chase jumped and slammed the door shut.
“What?” I was bewildered.
“We haven’t had any fun yet,” He grinned in a lecherous way, advancing towards me.

I did what any sensible woman would do; I ran up and kneed him in the groin, backing towards the door as he crumpled in pain, fumbling clumsily before finally escaping back into the safety of the ballroom..It was later than I realised; only a few drunk guests remained and I couldn’t find Jared, so I grabbed my car keys.

I actually dropped my car keys three times before fitting them into the ignition. I drove on auto-pilot, street after street, after street and after another street. Tears welled in my eyes but my dignity kept them at bay. Were there no more decent men in this world? Has prince charming become an extinct species? God if you’re out there I doom you to hell.

My mind slowly drifted to Jared, how long had I been driving? I grinded my teeth in the effort of keeping another wave of emotions back. I stepped on the pedal at this moment I really didn’t care how many tickets I got.

--

“Oh my god! Shooting Star!” Jared jumped up and pointed frantically into the night sky.
“Huh? Where?” I looked up confused, I didn’t see anything.
“Quick! Make a wish!” Jared clapped his hands together and closed his eyes; amused I stared at his
face...he was so handsome.
“There I’m done! What did you wish about?” Jared smiled down at me.
“...Oh! Err...sorry I didn’t make a wish.” I made an apologetic face.
Jared pouted and sat down next to me, our legs touched. “Well...I wished for us to always be together.”
“Yeah like that’s going to happen.” I shook my head but his eyes were so serious.
“It’s going to happen.” Jared nodded his head as if that proved everything.
“I’m a lawyer I only believe in facts and evidence and a shooting star isn’t enough.” I said this but my leg was burning and all I wanted to do was entangle myself with him.
“Well...there was no shooting star.” Jared glanced at me, like a cheeky child. “I just wanted to make you believe...”
I stared at him and the silence grew, until finally I burst into laughter.

“You...oh god you’re like a five year old.” My cheeks were red and I was still trying to catch my breath.
“I love you Ami.” He was serious; he was using his lawyer voice?
“Why so serious daaarling?” I put my hand against his waist and leaned onto his shoulder, the night was cold.
“Because I love you.” I closed my eyes and let the words repeat themselves inside my head. Because he loves me, yes that was the correct answer.

--

I looked out my car window...this is? This was the place. This was where we held our first anniversary. Right here, right on that hill, looking up at the stars, candlelight, picnic dinner, love confessions and even shooting stars. I couldn’t help but smile even though the tears were still in my eyes, all the good times...

I got out of my car unconsciously and walked towards ‘the spot’. The cool air brushing against my face making my eyes sting and yet calming me at the same time, sitting down on the soft grass I looked up into the sky, it really was so beautiful here. To think that almost two years ago at this same place sat two people with burning hearts that could have melded together. I pulled my legs up onto my chest suddenly I felt so tired, just so tired of everything.

Because I love you. The words drifted into my mind, his sincerity, his strength and his wonders. Was I really going to lose all that one day? I sighed, I probably was overreacting maybe he was trying to get on my boss’s good side for my benefit. Maybe I really misunderstood him. I took my phone out of my purse and dialled. It didn’t take me long as he was the top of my speed dial.

“This is Jared Way. I’m sorry that I’m busy right now, please call later or leave a message I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you.” I swore and slammed my phone shut this wasn’t the time for him to not pick up.

I looked back up into the sky and after a long struggle with the voice in my head I dialled again.

“This is Jar-.” God damn you Jared Way.

“I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you.” I sighed and waited for the beep. “Oi Jared. When you get this message call back.”

I sat staring down at my phone not sure how much time had passed but my legs were going numb. I snatched up the phone again. Beep. “Jared Michael Way! If you don’t pick up your phone!” I slammed it shut again, sighing. This isn’t turning out that great...maybe he was mad at me? After all I did leave the party without notice.

Beep. “Look I’m sorry; I just had some problems of my own but pick up your phone and we can talk it over. I know the party didn’t go well but...oh that’s right you came with me didn’t you? Would you like me to pick you up?” I checked my watch; it told me it was nearly midnight. “Look I’ll come over and pick you up, call back when you get this.” I got up and stretched my legs, god they hurt.

Getting back into my car I checked the time, it was midnight. I turned the car around and started to speed, screw rules.

Beep. "Jared look... we need to talk about before; are you still at the party? I'll be there soon."
Beep. "Jared, where are you? I'm here but you're not. You can't be that mad at me. Love you."

Beep. "Jared pick up your goddamn phone."

I sighed as I got back into the driver’s seat. I’d called him five hundred times and left about a hundred voicemails but Jared was just not picking up. It was only then that it hit me, Jared isn’t an idiot he’s still one of the top lawyers in his firm of course he would have hitched a ride with a friend. I banged my head against the wheel in frustration and was shocked back into my seat as it screamed out. Cold and angry at myself I turned on the engine and pulled out. I’ll go home and talk to him.

The night was nice so I rolled down my window as I drove slowly; now that I knew he would be home it wasn’t much of a hurry anymore. I smiled and enjoyed the night driving deliberately slower I’m sure things were going to be okay. I mean what did he do? Smile and talk. Why was I so jealous? God, couple therapy was something I laughed about maybe it wasn’t all that much of a joke after all? I almost laughed it was probably all that alcohol that had clogged up my brain cells.

That was when I heard them. Voices in ecstasy and not the nice type, the screaming, panting and moaning type of ecstasy. Voices that sounded...familiar. With a growing sense of dread I slowly drove towards the sounds, the noises. Oh. My. God.

I pressed down onto the pedal and sped into the night. Two words were uttered. “It’s over.”
