Mermaid Envy
By Winged Poetess

From the ledge of my bedroom window
I dwell on the memories of that night
Footprints washed away by the evening waves

Sun disappearing into the horizon
Countless stars coming out to play
Winds singing sweetly near the shoreline

Back then, I had stepped upon each rock
Like a child without care, dancing
It did not matter how close the waves came crashing

Rough yet beautiful, they where calling to me
The yearning to be caressed by the ocean
For a moment, I had to keep my feet ashore

And as I turned to return to the world
A part of me was left there within the waves
Forever yearning to be apart of the sea
