Your Empty Heart

Your smile speaks of love

In a voice soft like the wind,

Convincing me you feel no pain,

Cry no tears,

From a wounded heart.

--

The arms that hold me close

Are warm and soft like summer dawn,

Reminding me that the brightest smile,

The most sparkly eyes,

Hide the most torment.

--

You try to hide the shadows

With artificial rays of shine,

But the sorrow within your soul,

As black as the Devil's heart,

Keeps out all the light.

--

My gentle, apologetic words of sincerity

Fall like little drops of rain,

To dissolve and disappear

Within the empty well that once

Was your heart.
