The books are stacked beside me in a pile

Ready for me to devour them

Steadily and methodically

Working through each dish on the buffet line as if it were a task.

Bite flip chew skim swallow

Next page.

Have I forgotten how to carefully poise the spoon over the saucer

Because anticipation does make the finest spice

And carve a careful spoonful

To slip in my mouth

And savor the myriad of flavors? the cool ice

Slipping down my throat, the delicate tartness

Intermingled with sweet?

Or have I never sat down to enjoy

For myself and truly taste

Each succulent word, food for thought.

Only gluttonously throwing them back, just to have read.

A/N: I know, I'm using a bad word for no real apparent reason, even. Oops. So, yes, this is a shit title. Because I didn't really stop to think about it through. Suggestions are welcome but I don't expect any.
