another day

her legs,
long and brown from the
july sun
are stretched out before her,
crossed at the ankle.
she likes the feeling of sand between her toes
while watching people over the
rim of her sunglasses.
by the waterfront
she can forget her troubles,
smile back at the young man on his bicycle,
pretend that tomorrow is just
another day.

a/n: reality bites.
