Fidelity

Words sound so empty
As I form them with my lips
This bitter taste lingers
Reminding me of the past

This music I hear
Has long floated away
Yet your voice is still calling
A whisper through the trees

It’s not love, just so you know
You were nobody important
I still feel your hand, though
Clasped in mine

Everything changes, that’s what you said
The sun and grass and you and me
But don’t forget, don’t push back
The me and you of now

I feel a tingle
Crawling up my spine
It’s the wind, I tell myself
Just a passing thought

The sky is the same
Perfect in simplicity
Unlike this soul within
Luring me astray

Smiles never were so sad
Mine won’t go away
Fidelity’s a false term
A foolish dream

Placing a step forward
My feelings remain
And my memories too
The last fragments…

… of “me.”

Hope you like it. I enjoyed writing it.
