Determination

Through a painful veil of fear
I see myself in an odd balance
One side, my life, the other, my death
And the choice that must be made

From the outside, I look in
The world, which is seen in black and white
Not in color, or even gray
Ah, but how wondrous that would be!

If I am not to die here
I would very much like to live
But, you see, freedom is what I wish
Freedom in life or freedom in death

I can no longer be contained
No, cannot stay in this limbo
I am much too great for that,
Which can be said without vanity
