Ruins of Humanity

It rises from the Earth with all Its beauty
Looks around and sees what has been done
Strength and intelligence in Its onyx eyes
Its radiant red hues reflecting in the sun

A wisp of air as It takes flight
Like an inaudible sigh
There is an undeniable sadness
As It takes that land’s measure

Destruction and dissolution
That is what It witnesses
As the fires consume rationality
The living, ignorant of their own plight

The terrain, dead and forsaken
A cry of despair from Its heart
As It tries to find perches
The devastation is irreversible

It can no longer serve
For there is noting left
It’s purpose is forgotten
With the erosion of time

Messenger of the earth
Keeper of the sky
Servant of the sun
It is the Phoenix
