The quality of life

Isn’t nearly as important

As what you make of it.

Catch a bee and a butterfly

And tell me

Which is the menace?

A bee stings,

But it also makes honey.

A butterfly’s lovely,

But that is all.

--

Pull yourself through.

The bees you captured

Were captured with more force,

More effort.

The butterflies fluttered,

But pretty colors

Are only for show.

They teased you with their dance

As the bees flew right into

Your hands.

--

Value is the open door—

The key to wisdom,

The secret to happiness.

Appreciate what it took

To feel and to heal,

To burn yet not

To burn out.

Appreciate the bees

And the butterflies

Just the same.
