Will great expectations hinder my development?

I hold expectations no longer.

In these small and uncertain hands, I hold only dreams.

Without great expectations of those dreams being realized,

I hold dreams no longer.

In these wounded and shaking hands, I hold only hope.

Without great expectations of those hopes blossoming,

I hope no more.

In these cold and lifeless hands, I hold only regret.

Without great expectations, I never said the words that I had in mind.

Without great expectations, I never held on to the hand that I wish would be mine.

Without great expectations, I never tried to fix the fissure in the wall.

Without great expectations, I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply.

Without great expectations, I held my breath and prayed that I do not drown.

With no expectations whatsoever, I now live a meaningless life.

With no expectations, I might as well be dead.

And so I am.
