This is a short first chapter of a story I've been planning to write for a while now. Depending on reviews, I may or may not finish it. Don't hesitate to tell me what you think!
All my worries vanished. Every last concern seemed to disappear along with the wind that whistled past my ears. The only things I were aware of were ground being eaten up underneath my bike and how the wind had a way of racing through my amber hair causing it to fly out behind me like a flag. I sighed sending a splash of hot breath across my parched lips.
I barely even noticed, though. The sky was perfect. It was like a Thomas Kinkade painting come to life… only a million times better. Colors danced across the atmosphere so gracefully. It appeared as though a rainbow had stretched itself across the entire horizon.
Again, I released carbon dioxide.
“I love the sky,” I breathed dreamily.
But then, before my eyes, an odd shape morphed. Forgetting to pedal, I stared at the object as it took form. Red, orange, yellow, purple, blue… everything mixed together, slowly but surely, to make the shape of an… eye.
My eyebrows furrowed together in interest and puzzlement as the giant pupil swirled in the clouds. On any other day, I would have set this aside as short-term information. I would have pushed it away as just a fun fact and nothing serious, but… today was not a normal day.
The giant eye seemed to grow and grow as though it were leaning down to peer at me skeptically. It became unbearable to stare back at the ever-growing image. I wanted to look away but it seemed to be everywhere. And then, at the peak of this, the sun peeped through the center of it all sending a bright flash zooming across the road of my neighborhood. Nearly blinded, I swerved and barely missed hitting Mr. Johnson’s mailbox.
And, in that flash of heavenly light, something seemed to be triggered. I could feel it all throughout my petite frame. A gentle vibration had begun to echo across the ground. I could feel the movement becoming stronger until the rocks around my wheels bounced up and smacked against my numb calves.
But, I barely felt a thing. I was too distracted by the oncoming army tanks rolling up my neighborhood street with men inside firing at every local they caught sight of.
Like I said, it's short and sweet. But the rest of the chapters won't be. :)
