So I've been having a not so nice case of writers block lately which is strange. Anyway, in order to keep my 'creative juices' flowing, I decided to write this story. I got the idea because I've recently read quiet a few stories this week that have the main character's best friend and older brother get together which never ceases to piss the main character off and because of this, I often found myself resenting the best friend for a little bit. I didn't like that I resented the best friend and thought that if I wrote this this maybe it would make me feel better in the future when I read stories and that happens, haha.

Anyway, it is completed so the updates should come out regularly. It's not that well written but remember, this story was more for my own self calming purposes then anything else, so just bare with me. Hope you enjoy it! :

"Lucy, you're so pretty. It's ridiculous, really." Lucy Rush rolled her eyes at her best friend, Brooklyn LaDelt, as she continued to scoop yogurt from its container. "No, I'm serious. Do you realize how many girls would like, kill to have your hair?"

Lucy's blue eyes glanced at her beachy textured black hair and she shrugged.

"It's not that great, Brooke. Trust me."

"Oh, whatever, Luce. I'd trade my hair for yours in a minute." Brooke declared as she fingered her own pin straight brown hair, her brown eyes were looking over it critically.

"Please, Brooke. We're twenty years old, we've been having this discussion since the ninth grade. You know I love your hair, so easy to manage. You don't even have to brush it in the mornings." Lucy automatically said. It was too early in the morning for them to have this discussion.

Lucy had met Brooke in the ninth grade and while they hated each other at first (Brooke thought Lucy was nothing more then a loud, popular, preppy, cheerleader…which she was, while Lucy thought Brooke was a judgmental, drama freak…which she also was) they eventually became friends since they were paired together as lab partners. Of course, that didn't change that fact that Lucy was a preppy cheerleader or that Brooke was a drama freak but they learned to find some common ground between them that eventually evolved into a beautiful friendship that lasted past high school.

"Fine, fine…but still. I don't understand why you don't have a boyfriend right now. You could honestly get any boy you wanted-"

"Brooke, shut up. You're pretty and you know it." A groggy voice came from the dining room door. Lucy and Brooke looked up to see Ryan LaDelt entering the dining room, his brown hair was disheveled as usual and he looked tired as he entered in boxers and a white T-Shirt.

Ryan, being a year older then Brooke and Lucy, was the poster boy for the horrors of having an older brother. When Brooke was young, he teased her to no end and was always pulling her pigtails and such and when she got old enough to date, he instantly transformed into that irritating, overprotective, overbearing big brother who had no problem scaring her boyfriends or potential boyfriends out of their wits.

Lucy smiled to herself, thankful that she only had a younger sister.

Anyways, Ryan and Lucy had a comfortable friendship seeing as how she was his little sister's best friend. They weren't super close and they didn't hang out regularly but they acknowledged each other and it's not like World War III would erupt if the pair was in the same room.

"Whatever Ryan." Brooke waved her brother's comment away and he sat down at the table and grabbed a slice of toast off her plate. "Hey! Give me that toast!" She growled and Ryan smirked at her before he maliciously bit into the toast and gave his sister a taunting glare.

"That’s not nice, Ryan." Lucy spoke as she mockingly waved her spoon in his face, causing a tiny bit of yogurt to fly across the table.

Ryan rolled his green eyes and made a funny face at her in response which caused Lucy to laugh and stick her tongue out at him; their banter was cut short when Brooke snapped her arm across the table to make a grab for her toast. Sadly, Ryan simply pulled it out of her reach and Lucy shrugged at her friend apologetically for not being able to come up with a better distraction.

"Ugh! And this is the one thing I never miss while being away at college." Brooke hissed at her brother.

Brooke and Lucy attended separate colleges (Lucy only went across the state to UCLA while Brooke attended Texas State University, however she was transferring to NYU come the fall) but Lucy took enough classes and earned enough credits to graduate a year early. So now, Lucy was done with school as was Ryan, but Brooke still had another year of hitting the books to go.

However, it was summer vacation (actually, it was March but that’s when college let out) now so everyone was home in California. Lucy had spent the night at Brooke's house where she was residing with her older brother. It used to belong to Brooke's and Ryan's parents but they died right after Brooke graduated from high school; they didn't sell the house and since Ryan was working and living in California, his name was now on the deed to the house.

"You know you miss me. So how are the boys over in those cowboy parts?" Ryan asked, half teasing have serious. Lucy glanced over at Brooke while Ryan picked up his sisters orange juice and started to down it.

"Cowboy parts? Well, they certainly know how to give a wild ride." Lucy's jaw dropped and her laughter echoed in the room and Ryan spit out his orange juice as he started to cough. Brooke simply smirked at her brother.

"What?!" He roared once he finally got his coughing under control, but his voice still came out slightly raspy.

"God, breathe Ryan! I'm just kidding, but that’s what you get for stealing two very important parts of my breakfast. If it makes you feel any better, the guys have been keeping it in their pants around me." Lucy rolled her eyes at the lie; without Ryan around to scare off any testosterone ridden boys, Brooke's been enjoying herself quiet a bit.

"Well…good." He finished off the toast and stood up. "I've got to go. I've got work in an hour, see you later, Brooklyn . Bye Lucy." He gave Lucy a small smile which she returned before Brooke pulled her up by the arm.

"Come on, we've got to grab you sister in an hour and get to the mall. I've got my uncle's credit card and my aunt's blessing so lets blow this popsicle stand." Lucy laughed and willingly followed her best friend, not knowing that this simple trip to the mall would result in what she would eventually come to refer to as, the biggest mistake of Brooke's life.

"We never should have let her go back to buy those shoes." Sixteen year old Claire Rush muttered before she sipped at her Snapple. Lucy shrugged and glanced around the food court for Brooke; she was supposed to be there half an hour ago…but she wasn't.

"Do you think something happened to her?" Claire asked and Lucy laughed.

"Nah, she probably just saw that the movie store was having a sale…"

"They were?"

"Yeah, but I didn't say anything or else we'd be in there for hours." Lucy explained to her younger sister. Claire was the spitting image of Lucy, the only difference was that Lucy had blue eyes while Claire had brown. Both their parents had brown eyes but Lucy had inherited the eyes from her late grandmother.

"Oh, good point. God knows you wouldn't want to spend your day off in a movie store." Claire expressed with a wrinkle of her nose, causing Lucy to laugh. Lucy had been working for a publishing company since she was seventeen. She didn't work as a publisher or editor, of course - she did little things like she ran errands and organized things, kind of like a secretary. Well, all of that was until she graduated from college in the top 10 percent of her class, now she was moving onto bigger and better things. She was proofreading clients stories, editing them, and was working on her own book. "Oh look!" Claire exclaimed. "There she is! And, oh my god! She has a guy with her!"

Lucy swiftly turned in her seat and her blue eyes searched for who brunette friend who was smiling and waving frantically as she made her way over to Lucy and her sister; she did indeed have a guy whom she was pulling by the hand. He wasn't mega tall, he looked to be about 5' 8" but he looked kind of cocky. Lucy rolled her eyes at the fact that he was wearing dark sun glasses indoors.

Come on now, who does that? Actually, he looks kind of familiar…

"Hey guys, I'm so sorry I'm late." Brooke started when she reached them. "I went to go get the shoes and on my way out when I bumped into Jack here…remember, Luce? Jack Graplen?" Lucy thought a moment before her eyes widened and she glared at the man standing next to her best friend. Brooke took no notice of Lucy's sudden hostility. "Yeah, so anyways, we got to talking and I invited him to hang out with us…that’s alright, right?"

"Well, actually Brooke…I'm done here. Plus, Claire has softball practice in an hour and she needs to get ready."

"Oh…" Brooke frowned for a moment before her face lit up and she smiled at her best friend. "Well, I know that I wouldn't mind hanging out a little longer so how about you and Claire head back to your house since we took your car and Jack can take me home?" She looked up at him as she said the last part and he smirked and nodded in agreement.

"If you'll excuse us for a moment…" Lucy forced a smile and pulled Brooke away.

"Brooke, I do not think this is a good idea." She whispered harshly once they were out of Jack's and Claire's hearing range.

"What? Don't be so judgmental, Lucy." Brooke scolded.

"Brooke! This is the same guy who dated you and two other girls at the same time! He always forgot his wallet when you guys went out! What happened to hating him for the rest of your life?"

"Luce, that was two years ago!"

"So? You guys dated for three years and even then me and Ryan were telling you to drop his sorry ass."

"I was talking to him earlier and he seems like he's changed."

"He's to much of a cheap, cheating bast-"

"Lucy!" Brooke cut her off with an annoyed stare. "I'm hanging out with him, that’s all, alright? Now go home and I'll call you later. Bye, love you." She hugged her friend and walked to where Jack was standing uncomfortably next to a silent Claire. The pair walked off together and Lucy groaned before she stomped over to collect Claire and their bags.

"Let's go home." She mumbled and the two walked down to Lucy's silver VW convertible bug (her high school graduation present) for the long ride home.

Much to Lucy's disgust, by 8:00 that night, Brooke LaDelt and Jack Carrey were officially a couple.

Much to Lucy's surprise, at 9:00 that night, the doorbell rang to reveal an irritated looking Ryan LaDelt on the other side of the door.

"Ryan?"

"We need to talk." He spoke firmly as he pushed his way past her and headed to the living room.

"By all means, come in." She muttered sarcastically before closing the door and following his path to the living room where he was sitting in the couch with his arms crossed and a dark look on his face.

"So what's up?" Lucy asked as she leaned on the doorframe and crossed her own arms. Ryan groaned and let his head fall back onto the couch.

"Brooke and Jack? Again? I can already see where this is going to end up." He explained and Lucy nodded. She moved away from the door frame and plopped down on the couch next to Ryan while she looked foreword.

"I know, but honestly there's nothing we can do about it."

"What do you mean there's nothing we can do about it?!" Ryan asked, an edge in his voice. "There has to be something we can do about it; she's my sister!"

"And she's my best friend!" Lucy retorted. "I've already tried to talk her out of this but she won't listen. She's so setting herself up for disaster." Lucy groaned and Ryan nodded and ran a hand through his chocolate brown hair making it messier then usual.

"Which is exactly why we should stop it-"

"We should but we can't." Lucy explained and Ryan let out a heavy sigh once more and closed his eyes. Lucy took a deep breathe and prepared herself for Ryan's reaction to her next comment. "And we won't." Ryan's eyes snapped open and he stared in shock at his sister's best friend.

"What so mean we won't? As in we won't even try?!" He asked angrily.

"Yes, we won't even try." Ryan stood up, preparing to leave.

"I thought out of everyone, you'd be the one who'd back me 100 percent in this! They should not be together!"

"But we can't change her mind! We spent three years trying and she only broke it off with him once she found caught him in the act with one of his other girls! She's not going to listen to us and she needs to learn from her own mistakes, she doesn't want to listen to us and there's nothing we can do about it except watch from the sidelines and hope she makes the right decision. We can tell her our opinions on the matter but we can't force her to break up with him!"

"Whatever, I'm out of here." He told in an edgy voice.

"Ryan…" Lucy started but he was already gone.
