NOTE: the first few chapters are a DREAM. NOTE THAT. The later story mentions Kaiden and Xeno very little. maybe once or twice. they are, in the long run, important characters, but they aren't main characters. I know that the description said nothing about them, and it may prove confusing at first. sorry about that.

Prologue 1: A Dream

Kaiden lay staring up at the roof of the bunkers.

There wasn't much to look at.

Grey stone and some wood support beams. That was it.

Nothing spectacular, nothing amusing, nothing even remotely interesting.

A fly crawled across her cheek. She did nothing to stop it, instead letting it scuttle along until it flew away. Flies lived such short lives... but they were also in abundance... they were everywhere around here. In the stables, in the lavatories, and in the mess hall. So what was the point of killing them? There'd be just as many of them if you killed one, so why bother? It was pointless.

Time passed. She got up. Standing in the doorway to the bunkers, Kaiden watched the world go by. Soldiers mounted up, and rode away. No one she knew. It didn't matter, did it? If they went to quell some sickness or were riding into battle? They'd all die anyways. And some day, Kaiden would die, and be buried, just like them. The only difference was that they had someone to grieve for them.

"Hey Bloodsworne... God I can't believe I'm asking a fifteen year old this... We need you out in the North Field." The messenger waited by the door, watching the girl strap on a pair of long, straight swords, uncommon for this part of the Kingdom.

Although, I guess, he thought, they fit her perfectly. She pulled on a pair of gloves, and flexed her fingers. She nodded to the Messenger, and he brought her out to the North field.

There lay a man, broken and bloodied under a fallen tree.

Without hesitation, Kaiden simply lifted the tree off of the man, threw it to the side, and then slung the man over her shoulder. The crowd of men let her carry him off, knowing that she would take him to the infirmary. After all, this wasn't nearly the first time it had happened.

Kaiden Bloodsworne. Interesting... the nurse looked up to see Kaiden walk through the entryway to the tent. The young girl placed the man on an open bed and walked away.

The nurse sighed. Kaiden was so hopeless. She was always bringing in hurt men, and doing menial tasks because no one else wanted to do them. She was a young girl, only fifteen, from what the nurse knew. Fifteen, and a Demon berserker. She had simply wandered in one day, and joined up, knocking down anyone who tried to stop her.

She was short, and flat as a board. Her red-black hair was long and un-kept: hacked at and uneven from countless battles. Her reddish orange tunic had a large gash across it, through which you could see her chain mail. Chain mail that should have slowed a boy of that height let alone a girl as slim as Kaiden. And yet, she wore it all the same. The sleeves of the mail were too long by several inches. Her blood-red pants were tucked into her black boots, and the similarly colored sash around her waist held up two long swords and one short dagger. The nurse had never seen her draw the blades, instead simply bashing people to death with anything she could lift. Such was the nature of Berserkers.

All of that wasn't so bad. The bad part was her eyes: Reddish orange and vacant, as though she was an animate body with no soul or mind. Rumor was she never slept. Just lay there in the bunkers until someone called on her to help them. It would explain the heavy marks around her eyes, like someone had put way to much Kohl around her eyes.

Again the nurse sighed, and fetched a box of bandages to fix the man Kaiden had brought in.
