THE WRITING CIRCLE: LUGHNASADH POETRY CHALLENGE 2008
Lughnasadh Sonnet Challenge
Every once and a while we like to do something different. Our regular challenges are all about prose, so we like to give people a chance to exercise their poetic muscles from time to time. Lughnasadh is a pagan holiday associated with, among other things, competition and the god Lugh (who appears to have been brilliant at just about everything, including the arts of the bard). So we had our members write sonnets, specifically English/Elizabethan/Shakespearean sonnets. The topics range wildly and there were no other requirements besides the form, so we’re forgoing our usual voting procedures. Just choose the one that you like best!
About TWC
The Writing Circle is a group of writers wishing to challenge themselves through a series of monthly writing competitions. Each month one of the Editors posts a challenge with a word count and five things the story must include. The writers are then given a month to write their submission.
