Fish Wish
Chapter 2
"Wish granting goldfish? I…I don't understand." Suzume muttered from what the strange boy said before her.
Kaito sighed but still smiled, "It's a long story. Ask my master. But I, and two other goldfish, are the few to be given the powers to grant wishes of those that kiss them. That's right thanks to you kissing me you get four wishes of your choice."
Suzume's heart fluttered in excitement "Four wishes…r-really!?"
Both Suzume and Kaito completely ignored Kenta staring at the two and shivering in a corner.
"Well…yeah," Kaito said and itched the back of his head, "Yet still with some exceptions. You know like genies."
"Sooo…no asking for more wishes?" Suzume said.
Kaito nodded with a grin.
"Or for money?"
Kaito nodded again.
"Or for someone to love you?"
Kaito nodded again.
"Or to bring someone back to life?"
Kaito nodded again.
"Or to kill someone?"
Kaito nodded once more.
"Or to make your best friend's brain bigger since he's such an idiot?"
Kaito began to nod but stopped and looked confused. "Are you sure that will be your first wish?"
But Suzume didn't hear him since his question was completely drowned out by Kenta screaming, "WHAT!?"
Suzume laughed. "I was only kidding. Oh…hey!" She yelled as Kaito walked past her with a glowing hand reaching out to Kenta. "What are you doing!?" She sounded finicky.
Kaito looked at her in confusion again, "What? I thought that was your first wish right?"
"No, no! I was only kidding!"
Kaito put his hand down, "Oh."
Suzume sighed a sigh a
relief.
Kaito turned his head over to Kenta again. "Hm but
now that you mention it."
Suzume cringed. Now what!?
Kaito raised his glowing hand again. "He will have to have his memory erased."
"Whaaat!?" Kenta and Suzume screamed.
Quickly Suzume grabbed
Kaito by the hoodie and pulled him back with a harsh jerk, causing
the poor fish boy to choke.
"What the hell are you doing!?
Why does his memory have to be erased?! Definitely not at this time!!
I just won a ticket to my favorite band's concert ever!" Suzume
whined.
Kaito didn't respond because he was still trying his hardest to breathe. Suzume blinked and let him go. Kaito fell to the floor with a thud.
Kenta sighed. "She doesn't sound the slightest bit concerned. All she cares about is the ticket." He murmured to himself and crossed his arms. He put his head in his knees and muttered, "My memories…my poor memories."
Kaito stood up and dusted his shirt. "I must," he responded, "No one but you can know about me."
"Well uh…what if he can keep it a secret! Kenta is reaaallllly good at it!" Suzume said, flailing about and chuckled sheepishly.
Kenta suddenly got to his feet and stood beside Suzume nodding. "Yes! Yes I can!"
Kaito looked back and forth at the two. They were both spazzing out and it was hard for him to understand them.
"Very well, but if anyone finds out…well…they probably shouldn't." Kaito only smiled but it both sent chills down Suzume's and Kenta's back.
Suzume broke the
silence, which had formed by Kaito's paralyzing grin, with a sheepish
chuckle.
"Ahaha! I think Kenta should head home now! S-see
you tomorrow for the concert uuuh…meet at your place right!? OK
bye!!" She said, taking her ticket from his hands and pushed him
out the door without giving him a chance to say anything.
She slammed the door after him and turned to Kaito quickly. He was looking around the room in curiosity.
Suzume watched him, she figured what with him being a fish he probably wouldn't get the human life style. She blinked as she saw him crawl under the bed.
"Um…Kaito…what are you…doing?"
Kaito emerged from
under the bed with a grin then held up a white piece of cloth…a
specific piece of cloth.
Suzume's face went red in an instant and
she began to sweat.
"I saw you drop this yesterday and it got pushed under your bed with your feet while you got dressed last night." Kaito said kindly. He stood up and handed it to her.
Suzume's face went gradually from embarrassment to anger. She clenched the undergarment in her fist, gritting her teeth and let the anger fuel her up for her attack.
Kaito tilted his head to the side. "Is there something wrong Suzume-sama?"
"You…pervert…" she muttered.
Kaito blinked, "Huh?"
"I said you're a pervert!" She screamed and sent him flying across the room with her fist.
"And don't call me 'Suzume-sama'," she muttered.
She sighed after cooling down and rubbed her now sore fist. She walked toward the unconscious Kaito and squinted at her wall.
"Damn there's a dent. I'll just cover it up with a poster."
She then peered down at Kaito.
"Hey…how long are you going to stay like that? You're on my desk I need to do some math." She leaned in to make sure he wasn't faking it. Hell she didn't even know if he was awake or not with his hair covering his eyes.
She brushed his hair out of his face and suddenly his eyes popped open. It startled her and she jumped back with a scream.
Kaito got to his feet and titled his head, "Did I fall asleep? Why does my head hurt?" He rubbed the back of his head and flinched from the feeling of the large lump.
Suzume shook her head, "Forget that! You scared me how'd you wake up so quickly!?"
Kaito titled his head to the other side. "You have warm hands."
Suzume blushed and peered at her hands, shook her head and looked back at him. "Whatever just…go back in your fish tank or…something!" She growled and marched over to her algebra homework. She reached for her calculator and stabbed each number with her forefinger harshly. Kaito stood beside her and blinked from behind his bangs. He walked closer to Suzume and ignored growling noises coming from her. He leaned in closer and closer to the point Suzume could feel and hear him breathing.
"What do you want now?" She growled.
He looked over at her, with his hair falling to the side a bit allowing her to see one of his wondrous sapphire eyes.
"What are those weird markings?" He asked pointing at her algebra homework.
"That's math. It's evil and hard."
Kaito looked at it and tilted his head. "I don't see how mere markings is evil."
Suzume sighed. "It just is OK!?"
Kaito shrugged, "Would you like me to eliminate it? I can do so if you wish so."
"I'd love to but I don't want to waist a wish on homework. I'm half way done anyway."
She punched more numbers into the calculator, confirming her answer then wrote it down. Kaito picked up the calculator after she set it down and punched it a few times. He was definitely intrigued by this strange magic pad. Suzume looked up at him after getting annoyed from hearing the constant tap, tap, tap, tap noise. She quickly snatched it from him and set it to the other side of the desk. Kaito looked disappointed but decided he'd occupy himself with something else.
He looked around and noticed that things Suzume wasn't messing with didn't seem as interesting. He then felt his stomach growl and headed to his tank.
Suzume had a feeling he was up to something so she turned to him to see he was eating his fish food. She got to her feet, walked to him and took it from him. "Don't eat that!"
"Why? I eat it all the time."
Suzume sighed. "It's your fish food for…when you're a fish. You're human…er...human-like now. So you can eat some human food." She set his food back on the table his tank sat on and headed to her door.
"Stay here!" She said stopping him after noticing he wanted to follow her. Her father was working so was her mother…but she worked at home. She definitely didn't want her sister seeing him either. "I'll be right back ok?" She said noticing the frown on his face.
Kaito nodded. She nodded back with a smile and left. Kaito looked around her room and walked back to her math homework. He still didn't understand it but he figured he'd play with the "calculator" some more.
Suzume came back to her room and before she went inside she heard…giggling. And it sounded like it was coming from more than one person. Suzume cursed under her breath and threw the door open…
…to see Sora playing with Kaito! She was sitting on his lap, whom was sitting on Suzume's bed, and messed with his bangs. Kaito didn't seem to mind at all and was very amused.
Great…just what I needed. I'll definitely have to use a wish to make sure he doesn't get rid of her memory. Suzume thought. She let out a sigh as she closed the door and threw the bag of rice cakes she brought up with her onto her bed.
Kaito smiled and grabbed the bag, opening it and sticking one in his mouth while giving another to Sora. Sora took it and happily munched on it.
"Sora…what are you doing in here?" Suzume said with a moan.
Sora looked up at her with the cracker in her mouth and her eyes smiling at her. "I wath boredth scho I wanted to pway with 'ou 'ut when I came in I schaw Kaito-san in here inschtead. Isch he your new friend?"
Suzume twitched. Friend…right.
"Hey Suzume…" Sora asked after finally eating the cracker.
Suzume looked at her. "What?"
"Why does Kaito have funny ears."
Suzume twitched again. She knew those questions were coming. She then looked at Kaito. "You're not going to…you know…"
"I probably will have to." He said with a sorrowful smile.
Suzume still was confident to use her wishes with a wise manner. But then again her sister's memories were important. But even if she wished for him not to do it she probably would still tell her parents. Unless…
"Hey Kaito do you think it's possible I could maybe…wish for you to make my sister keep a secret? She's horrible with secrets and my parents will believe anything. Even the fact my goldfish is like a genie."
Kaito shrugged. "If that's your wish, it doesn't conflict with any of the rules, so I can grant it."
Suzume bit the bottom of her lip. She really didn't want to say the magic words but she had too.
"Here it goes…" she muttered then took a deep breath and said aloud, "Kaito…I wish that my sister can keep the secret about you!"
Kaito smiled, "Very well, wish granted." He tapped Sora on the forehead, who didn't understand anything that was going on, but giggled when he tapped her anyway.
"Now to test it out," Suzume said and leaned forward. "Hey Sora will you go tell momma and papa about Kaito?"
"Nope!" Sora said with a grin.
Suzume sighed. Good it worked. If I hadn't used the wish she would've run and told momma and papa right away.
Suzume then got to her feet and took Sora from Kaito. "Ok go now, sissy is doing homework."
"But…I'm bored…and…and I want to play with Kaito some more!" Sora whined and began to cry.
Crap! If she cries momma will come and see Kaito and there will be no point in that first wish!
"Ok ok! I'm sorry, here!" She said and gave her back to Kaito.
Sora giggled and began to tug on the fish boy's ears. Kaito flinched but ignored it and let her continue playing. Suddenly a small, white and brown spotted creature caught Kaito's eye. The creature looked up at him and twitched his ear and tail. He didn't understand why this human smelled so good, and like fish, but it smelled good to the point of biting. The cat licked his chomps and walked toward Kaito.
"You…you have a cat!?" Kaito yelped and jumped up, holding Sora on his shoulders. Sora giggled and let out a happy "wheee!"
Suzume let out a "mhm"
but ignored him after that.
Kaito then jumped onto the bed but
the cat jumped after him.
Kaito then jumped down to the floor and once again the cat followed him.
Kaito then began to spin around the room running from the feline and still he followed him as if it were a game of tag. Kaito hated cats. It was only natural since he was a fish. But this one was stubborn and wouldn't leave him alone. Meanwhile Sora was enjoying the ride, thinking it was all a part of a game.
And of course…Suzume just ignored them.
"Done!" Suzume said with a proud face and slammed her math book and notebook shut and stuck her pencil into the pencil holder. She then turned around after noticing how quiet it had gotten. Behind her Kaito was standing on the table; that his tank was placed on, with Sora still on his shoulders but now asleep. Kaito and the cat were standing there…just staring at him. Thankfully there was no room on the table for the cat to jump to so he was safe.
"Miki!" Suzume yelled and got up, snatching the cat by the back of his neck and threw him out her room. "Sorry Kaito."
Kaito let out a sigh and got off the table. "It's alright as long as he's gone now."
He then took Sora off his shoulders and held her in his arms, he smiled down at her. "You have a cute sister."
"Cute but troublesome sometimes," Suzume said with a sigh then looked at her alarm clock to see that it was already 7:30 PM. She let out a sigh again. "Time flies when you're doing math homework."
"Yes and running from a cat." Kaito said.
Suzume sweat dropped. "Right. Well I'm making dinner. You stay!"
Kaito stayed put after having been told to.
Suzume sighed and shook her head as she headed down the stairs and prepared a quick meal of rice and curry. She usually was the one to always make the meals since her mother and father were always working. She was sometimes like the mother of the house. Taking care of her sister, cooking and cleaning, and yet she didn't mind anyway.
"It makes me feel all grown up. Even if I'm only fourteen years old." Suzume said to herself and smiled. She then went into the pantry and grabbed the rice while preparing the rice cooker. She hummed a tune, of her favorite song from her favorite band, as she cooked. But she stopped when she heard a sudden noise…like someone moving.
Couldn't be Miki he's too light footed to make that noise. It must be momma…or… she then let out small growl to turn to see Kaito standing there with a smile and Sora still sleeping in his arms.
"Kaito I told you to stay! What if my mom comes down!"
"Oh don't worry
I'll go back upstairs I just wanted to know if you wanted me to wake
Sora up since you were preparing food. I was also curious if I may
have some of that food you're preparing. Oh…Suzume what's that
white thing behind you? It's making noises and it's steaming."
"Yes
you can have some!" Suzume yelled "And yes kindly wake up
my sister now get!" She pointed to the stairs.
"But what about the white box?!" Kaito said with a frown.
"It's a rice cooker now go!"
Kaito hung his head and turned heel.
Suzume let out a frustrated sigh and continued on with her cooking.
After about half an hour she was done and took the first plate to her mother. She was in her office as usual doing some research for her next novel. Her mother wrote most novels on books giving advice to other women, mothers to be exact. She had written two fictional stories and was now working on the third. Even though all her stories were pretty realistic and pretty much retold their family's stories, yet with some twists and her family was replaced with different characters, but it was still interesting none the least.
"Thank you," Suzume's mother, of whom Suzume definitely got her fine hair and green eyes from, said with her eyes smiling behind her small glasses and spreading her lips into a large smile.
Suzume bowed and
replied with a, "your welcome." She then left the room
quietly and headed to her room with the tray with three plates, one
of which she hid behind her back so her mother wouldn't notice and
ask who the extra plate was for.
"I've got food!"
Suzume said with a smile and watched as both Kaito and Sora popped up
like two hungry dogs and tackled her down for the food.
Suzume let out another annoyed growl after handing the two the plates.
"Don't make a mess!" Suzume growled as the two headed to her bed. She usually didn't allow others eating on her bed but since there were chances of her mother maybe coming downstairs and seeing the three at the dinning table wasn't very good.
After the meal Suzume and Sora took a quick bath together then Suzume put Sora to bed. She read her a bit of her favorite story telling book and kissed her goodnight. Once she returned to her room she saw Kaito looking out the window while still perched on her bed. He heard her coming and turned his head to the door, seeing her enter. Suzume was still in her robe but she didn't seem to care if Kaito saw or not. She was planning on changing once he changed back into a fish. Which is going to be now. Suzume thought to herself with even her thoughts having an annoyed tone to it.
"Kaito…change
into fish form I have to change."
Kaito stood, headed to his
tank and with a poof he was back in his tank swimming about.
That was easy…does he really listen to everything I tell him to do?
She then waited for him to hide in his little fish house or behind the fake plants but instead he just swam about.
I knew it. He's planning on watching that pervert…wait a minute. Suzume's eyes widened as she suddenly realized all those times she had changed in front of him! She grasped her head and sweated. I even stood naked right in front of the tank and sorta…talked to him once!
Kaito tilted his body to the side, swam to the top of water and suddenly spoke. "Is something the matter Suzume?"
"Y-you can speak too!?" she said and jumped back.
Kaito blinked. "Yes."
Suzume felt dizzy, this was all too much in one day. She felt like she was going to pass out in any second. But first she had to get dressed. So quickly she threw a blanket over his tank. She ignored his whining about it being dark since she knew he was actually whining about not being able to see her. Then she quickly dressed and plopped herself down onto her bed. She breathed heavily from all the stress. Screw saving the wishes I just need to get rid of him and return him to a fish! He's too much of a pain I can't keep up with it.
"Suzume…please I really don't like it when it's dark." Kaito was whining still from behind the blanket. Suzume let out another sigh, threw her legs off the bed and lifted her upper torso up. Then she got to her feet and walked over to his tank, pulled the blanket to see Kaito swimming about frantically.
I guess he really doesn't like the dark. Suzume said as she watched. But finally after a while he realized it was light and calmed down. He looked up at her with what seemed to be a smile for a fish and thanked her.
"No problem. Well I'm gonna go pick out an outfit for the concert. Can you help me decide?" She asked.
Kaito nodded and with a poof, turned human again. "Sure!" He then plopped onto her bed and watched her.
"You know…" Suzume said as she was looking through her shirts. "…you're really a pain."
"Sorry…" Kaito said bowing his head.
"But I guess I could get used to it. Oh…I have a question what happens after you grant the final wish? Will you still stick around or turn back into a fish?"
Kaito gripped the bed sheets. "That's right…I forgot to tell you another one of the rules."
Suzume stopped and turned to him. "What is it?"
"One of the biggest rules of all," Kaito said raising his head up, causing his bangs to fall and she could see that his eyes showed fear and sadness. This slightly scared her since it didn't seem to match his character at all. It also saddened her to see the hue of his eyes dark yet still sparkle from fear.
"You can't wish for me to not die."
Suzume blinked. "What?"
Kaito then looked at her. "We grant wishing fish are pretty much immortal, we don't age until all wishes are granted. But that wouldn't matter…because once the final wish is granted…we die."
Suzume gasped and stared at him with wide eyes.
Die…did…did he really say that? Why? I don't want him to die. He may be a pain but not enough for him to be gone! With that Suzume dropped to her knees and stared at the floor in shock, her eyes wide and her hand clasped over her mouth. What am I going to do?
