Family Remembrance Poem – “Simple Luxuries”

Over the musical styling’s
of DMX and Third Eye Blind
which intrude from the next room,
my mom would have dinner ready.

The aroma would sift over countertops,
and through the crack of the doorway.

Taking a bite,
and then another,
and another,
I wouldn’t pay much mind
to how the meal had come
to sit before me.

I simply took bites,
one after another.

The sound of Third Eye Blind’s genius
accompanied my chewing,
as I held little regard for people around
who might not appreciate such music.
