Hey guys! Sorry for the late update again. I’ve been a bit busy and a bit distracted mainly working on my novel and my stories on fanfiction. But I do hope this chapter was worth the wait.
Chapter 4: New Investigation
Skyrah sighed softly while strolling down the sidewalk. “What a morning.”
Clovers barged into Skyrah’s room. “Skyrah!?”
The teen shot up startled by the loud entrance but sighed when she met her friend’s gaze. “Clover don’t do that! You nearly made me jump out of my own skin.”
“Just what the hell happened yesterday!” She demanded loudly stomping towards her friend.
Skyrah jumped slightly surprised by her friend’s loud demand. ‘She actually remembered all that? I thought she would have figured it was all a dream.’
“Hello!?” Clover practically shouted waving her hand in front of the teen’s face. That action caused the teen to flinch snapping her out of her thoughts. “Are you going to answer me or not?” Her gaze suddenly narrowed. “Or did that boy even tell you anything?”
Skyrah took in a deep breath before releasing it sounding a bit rough.
‘I was so sure that Clover would have thought all of that was a dream and would have forgotten about it.’ She shook her head. ‘She really proved me wrong that’s for sure.’
She raised her gaze to the sky. ‘But I guess it’s a good thing she knows about it. That way she can help me make excuses since…there’s no way I can tell Melvin and Susan about this. They wouldn’t believe me anyway.’
“But also thanks to Clover I was able to get out of there right at 7:10.” She added optimistically and sighed happily. “So now I can get to school in peace without having to rush.”
Chase’s explanation flew back in her mind; she held the necklace and gazed at it. ‘I still can’t believe that everything that happened yesterday was all completely real. It all seemed too bizarre to be real.’ Skyrah released a soft sigh moving her gaze up staring down at the sidewalk. “Looks like I’m in for a very interesting year.”
A demon portal suddenly appeared through the pavement and out of the portal came a huge staple like pole. Of course Skyrah was too lost in her thoughts to notice and tripped over it.
“AH!”
“Got ya!” She landed right into Chase’s arm preventing her from crashing onto the ground.
“Chase!?” Skyrah gaped out surprised by his sudden appearance.
“You know you really should start paying more attention to your surroundings.” He commented with slight concern. “You’re so lucky that I was heading in this direction or else you would have been eating pavement.”
She gasped immediately moving away from him and looked at the necklace. “Did this thing glow?”
“No it didn’t.” He answered getting her attention. “Again I was heading in this direction when I saw you.”
“Mm?” He glanced over towards the portal to find the little black demon snapping his fingers looking disappointed. Chase glared at the demon as it disappeared into the portal. ‘Damn are those things persistent.’
“But how did you even know I was even out here this early?” He heard Skyrah continue to question. He met her gaze watching her raise a brow. “Even yesterday you always appeared like you knew I was there.” She tilted her head. “Do you have a radar on me or something?”
“You could say that.”
“Seriously?” She gazed oddly at him.
“Well being your guardian I have to know where you are at all times.” Chase tapped his head. “So I have your life force memorized right here in my noggin.”
”Life force?”
He nodded. “Another word for energy. Each person has a different life force no one has the same exact life force just like people have different scents. So as guardians we have to be able to tell the pure heart’s energy apart from the others and memorize it.”
“So in a way you’re kind of like dogs trying to memorize a scent.”
“Yeah and once we have that life force memorize we can easily identify who they are and where they are just like dogs can.”
Skyrah crossed her arms. “And you managed to memorize mine in just one two days?”
“Surprisingly yes.” He crossed his arms. “Yours’ was easy for me to identify and memorize.” ‘It was like I knew it sometime before.’
She eyed him cautiously. “Should I take that as a complement or an insult?”
He furrowed a brow. “Duh of course it’s a complement. What else would it be?”
She shrugged. “Well one can never be too sure these days.”
Chase rolled his eyes. “Come on let’s go.” He began walking away, which caused Skyrah to flinch slightly.
Her heart suddenly fell at his reaction and quickly appeared at his side. “I didn’t offend you did I?” He gazed down at her as she went on. “I mean if I did I’m truly sorry that wasn’t my intention.”
“No you didn’t offend me, though I would appreciate it if you trusted me a little more.”
“What are you talking about? Of course I trust you or else I wouldn’t have believed those things you told me yesterday.” Skyrah replied raising a brow with an odd tone.
“But the fact that you thought I insulted you makes me think that you don’t trust me fully.”
“Well I just met you yesterday.” She defended honestly. “I don’t really know that much about you other than what you are. I don’t know that much about your personality other than not being judgmental. So can you really blame me if I assume something like that?”
Chase sighed roughly. “No I suppose I can’t I don’t know that much about you either.” He crossed his arms and smiled. “But we will soon enough.”
Skyrah smiled in return feeling very relieved that he wasn’t truly upset about it.
Something then suddenly came across the guardian’s mind and raised a brow changing the subject. “How did you manage to get out here so early? I was so sure you would end up running late again like yesterday?”
“Clover barged into my room at six this morning.” She answered softly and smiled. “Which I must say worked a lot better than my stupid clock.” ‘Considering the dumb thing doesn’t even work.’
The angel boy gazed at her questionably. “Why the heck did she do that for? She was aware you were sleeping right?”
“Yes she was aware but she wanted an explanation for what happened yesterday.”
Chase flinched very surprised. “I honestly thought she would have believed it was all just some crazy dream.”
“Well obviously not or else she wouldn’t have marched into my room demanding answers.”
He looked away. “Guess so.” He glanced at her. “Did you tell her?”
“The truth you mean?”
The golden boy nodded, Skyrah sighed. “Yes I did tell her the full truth.”
“And she believed all of it?” He responded arching a brow looking quite surprised.
“She was surprised but she was pretty much expecting it.”
“She assumed I was an angel?”
“Well the Cones’ and I are strong believers of angels. But of course she overheard that demon call you an angel and she just took the information from there.”
Chase sighed with relief. ‘That’s good to know at least some people still believe.’ Something occurred to him and asked. “Did you tell her parents and the others?”
Skyrah shook her head. “No of course not.”
“Why the heck not?” He went on sounding a bit angry at her confession. “It would make both of our lives easier if your caregivers knew about this.”
“Do you seriously think that they would believe me? Especially when they didn’t even see any of that fight?” She asked him with a blank knowing look. “I think not.”
“But they heard it didn’t they?”
“Yeah but…look!” Skyrah narrowed her gaze slightly. “I just don’t want to tell them! They’ve had enough drama in their lives to last a lifetime. With all that has happened to them over the years I just don’t want to dump my problems onto them, that just wouldn’t be fair.”
“You’re going to make them worry ya know.”
“Not if we keep this quiet.”
He murmured gruffly. “I doubt you can keep this quiet for long.” ‘Especially not in the way it’s going.’
“I realize that but for right now I just want them to live peacefully without having to hardly worry about anything beside their kids and their bills. Besides Clover knows so just be satisfied that at least someone knows.”
Chase grumbled watching the girl as she walked passed him. ‘Yeah but I would be more relieved and satisfied if all of them knew.’
A harsh growl vibrated throughout the air of the underworld. The red devil glared at his black mirror, which shined with the image of Skyrah and Chase walking together.
“So that brat’s guardian has finally appeared eh?” He scowled leaning on his chin. He growled with frustration smoothing his claw from his chin to his forehead. “I was so hoping I would eliminate that girl before he could even appear.”
He leaned back in his chair. “But then again those angels never make it easy for us.” He released a soft sigh. “But I guess before I start cursing at those pathetic angels and that stupid guardian…” He smirked, “I should test out this new little guardian of theirs’. He may have looked impressive but Oilson was a weak demon to begin with, that boy could have just been lucky.”
“Commander!”
The annoying voice reached his ears snapping him out of his thoughts. He gazed over towards his master’s little minion, he narrowed his slightly. “What?”
The little minion appeared by his side. “Master was wondering what you’re planning? He wasn’t very happy with how that fight turned out.”
“Well he ain’t the only one.” The commander responded gruffly looking away. “I was not expecting that girl’s guardian to show up at that exact time.”
“So do you have a plan to get rid of him?”
“Not at this point. But I will test the lad to see if he’s even worth the effort.” He gazed down at the minion. “So tell the boss that I’m merely going to test the guardian before I plan anything else.”
The minion nodded before racing back towards his master’s dorm. The red commander turned his gaze back towards the mirror. “Be prepared guardian for the test of your life.”
“ACHOO!” Chase sneezed.
“Bless you.” Skyrah told him while putting her things in her locker.
“Thanks.” He thanked glancing at her. He then asked curiously with a raised brow. “Hey just how long as this bad luck been happening?”
She gazed up at him before raising her stare up at the ceiling. “Well um…I think seven eight years ago.” She looked at him oddly. “Why do you wanna know?”
He shrugged. “Merely curious, being your guardian I have make sure I protect you from everything.”
“Can you seriously protect me from bad luck?” Skyrah questioned him sounding doubtful.
Chase heard her doubtful tone and sighed crossing his arms. “I won’t know until I figure out when and how this started.”
“All I can tell you is that it started like a few months before I turned twelve when I began living with the Cones.”
“Did anything particular happen during that time?”
Skyrah tilted her head in thought before answering oddly. “No…I don’t think so.” She suddenly gasped when something sparked her memory. “Other than Mr. And Mrs. Cones almost getting a divorce.”
”Divorce?” Chase repeated raising a brow.
“You’re serious?” Chase commented loudly with his gaze wide. “Because of your words they reconsidered getting a divorce?”
Skyrah nodded while raising her gaze from her English worksheet to him. “Yes, as weird as it sounds. But I knew the two still cared for each other they were just dealing with a lot of stress during that time.”
“Yeah I guess having them almost lose their diner could put stress on anybody.” Chase remarked in agreement. Suddenly he smiled. “But I’m sure the Cones were glad that you were there to open their eyes.”
The curly maiden blushed smiling happily. “Yes they actually thanked me for that the day before I met up with you.”
The angel boy continued to smile warmly. ‘This is one of the pure hearts’ main strengths, being able to reach out to people and convince them to do the right thing.’ He tilted his head. ‘Though I don’t think it’s all that powerful yet considering she’s only able to reach the Cones whom have light.’
BBBRRINNNGGGG
The students quickly gathered up their materials and walked out of the room.
Skyrah sighed. “Well at least we only have that one worksheet to worry about.”
“For English anyway.” Her guardian reminded her while strolling beside her down the hall.
She raised her gaze. “And hopefully that’ll be the only thing we’ll need to worry about for the day.”
“I highly doubt it.”
She shrugged. “One can hope right?”
Chase nodded and quickly turned his attention down the hall to spot a locker door swinging towards Skyrah. The brunette teen quickly noticed but before she could do anything her guardian grabbed the long door.
Skyrah jerked back slightly before quickly looking up at him. She found him glaring at the locker door, her eyebrow rose. ‘What’s up with that glare?’
Chase ignored her questionable gaze and took a step forward. He peered behind the door only to scowl softly at the red imp hanging onto the locker door like a spider.
“Had a feeling one of you would show up.” He murmured with annoyance.
The imp flinched realizing that this human could actually see him. “One of who?” They heard Skyrah question appearing beside the angel boy.
Her gaze fell upon the imp and yelped jerking back with her eyes shooting open. “What in the world is that thing?”
“Wait?” Chase raised a brow with his gaze wide in surprise. “You can actually see it?”
“Obviously or else I wouldn’t be asking about it.”
‘This girl keeps surprising me.’ The guardian blinked in surprise before gazing back towards the imp. ‘Mother told me she would be able to see them soon, but I didn’t figure it would be this soon.’
“Hello!” He heard Skyrah say waving her hand in front of him. That snapped him out of his thoughts and looked at her. Her hands were propped up on her hips. “Are you going to answer me or not!”
He sighed roughly. “Not right now.” He peeled the imp off of the locker. The imp screamed struggling against the angel’s grip knowing what was coming next.
“And why not?” Skyrah continued to ask eyeing him.
“Too many people.” Chase answered simply turning the imp into dust with his blinding yellow light.
Skyrah gaped softly turning her gaze from the imp to her guardian. “I’ll tell you at lunch when we are alone.”
She tilted her head raising a brow now suddenly curious.
Ryan, Claire and Keesha watched the two converse with one another. Claire grumbled angrily. “Honestly, what does he see in her? She nothing but bad luck.”
“Oh don’t worry Claire he’ll see soon enough.” Her male friend reassured her with a slight snort. “This is only his second day with her, I’m sure by the end of the week he’ll be running away from her begging us for forgiveness.”
“I sure hope so. I can’t stand seeing her with him.”
Keesha glared at them. ‘Just what the hell is wrong with them? I swear they were never this stuck up before.’ She just sighed shaking her head before gazing back towards the older teens. She tilted her head with an odd stare. ‘But what was that thing that Chase took off the locker? It looked awfully big to be a spider…or any type of bug for that matter.’
“Keesha!”
“Huh?” She responded quickly snapping her attention towards her friends. They had already begun walking down the hall.
Ryan waved his hand signaling her to follow. “Come on or we’ll be late.”
“Oh coming!” She quickly went after them. ‘I’ll ask them about that later.’
“So those things were demons?” Skyrah questioned her guardian as they ate on the roof like usual.
Chase nodded after taking a bit of his apple. “They’re called imps and they basically do all the little jobs to harm people.”
“Like what?” She asked curiously taking a sip of her milk.
“Oh like breaking down peoples’ cars those little bad things that usually happen.” He pointed at her. “So really the main thing they are known for is forcing people to have bad luck.”
Skyrah jerked. “Bad luck?” She leaned towards him. “They cause bad luck?”
“Yep.” He took another bit of his apple. “Which would explain your ounce of bad luck wouldn’t it?”
“Yeah.” She responded softly looking away from him. “That would explain things.” ‘Especially things with my alarm clock not working and having pens explode in my face.’
“But it seems they are targeting you more than anyone else.”
“Because I have a pure heart?”
Chase nodded. “Yep which I’m still trying to figure out why?”
Skyrah shrugged. “Well don’t the devils and demons hate good hearted people in general?”
“Yeah but they seem more aggressive about it this time around.”
“And you don’t know why?”
He shook his head. “No none of the angels of told me anything about it.”
The brunette maiden raised a brow. “Why? Do they not know?”
Chase shrugged. “I honestly have no clue. Maybe they want us to figure it out on our own.” He crossed his arms over his knees. “The angels can be like that sometimes.”
“True.” Skyrah replied gazing away from him. Something then came across her mind. “Say Chase?”
She met his questionable gaze. “When you told me all this you mentioned there were more pure hearts and guardians?”
The golden boy nodded. “I somewhat mentioned that though very briefly.”
“So how many of us are there total?”
“Hmm.” Her guardian began thinking tapping his chin, he then answered. “Well according to the angels there are five guardians and five pure hearts including you and me.”
“So there’s ten of us total?”
He nodded. “Yes.”
“And by any chance are we going to have to find them?” Skyrah asked eyeing him suspiciously.
“Yes.” The guardian responded cautiously before raising a brow. “Is that a problem?”
Skyrah sighed. “No not really it’s just a lot of work to put on us.”
“Oh we won’t be looking for them by ourselves.”
“Really?” She replied surprised. “The angels are going to help us?”
Chase smirked. “Duh why wouldn’t they?”
She shrugged. “I don’t know I guess with them being busy with other things…”
“No matter how many things they do they always find the time to help everyone. Even their own comrades.”
Skyrah couldn’t help but smile at his warm words. “Right!” She then tilted her head. “So how to we find them?”
“Don’t worry we’ll know when we find them.” Her guardian reassured her. “But all I was told was that they were in this city somewhere.”
“Well gee that narrows it down.” The pure heart responded rolling her gaze sarcastically. She shook her head. “It could be anybody.”
“Yeah but they have to be unusually kind, you know like how you are.”
Skyrah immediately blushed at his words. “Just think how a pure heart should be like and we’ll be able to find them.”
She just sighed at his words. “Yeah but it’ll take a while.”
Chase shrugged as he tossed his apple core over the roof. “Don’t worry even if we don’t find them their guardians will.”
”Ugh where the heck did this come from!” The two jerked and quickly looked over the edge of the roof. They found their principle rubbing his head holding the apple core. The principle began glancing around. “Who’s out here! They should be inside eating not out here!”
Skyrah grumbled and tossed him a blank stare. “Nice job now you got the principle mad.”
Her guardian looked at her. “I thought we could be up here.”
The brunette maiden sighed roughly. “To be honest, we’re not supposed to be up here.”
He raised a brow. “Then why are we up here? We’ll get in trouble.”
“How else was I supposed to eat in complete peace?” She shot back at him reasonably. “You’ve seen how those students treat me. There’s no way I was going to eat in the same lunchroom as them.” She sighed. “Getting picked on all the time is really tiring and I really needed a break from all that.”
Chase just stared at her with a soft gaze.
Skyrah yawned stretching out her arms. “What a day.” She smiled optimistically. “But nothing bad happened today.”
“That’s because I was preventing it from happening.” She heard her guardian voice in as he strolled beside her.
She smiled. “Yep and I’m deeply grateful for that.” She then went on warmly. “Thank you Chase.”
Chase blushed quickly looking away. “D-Don’t mention it. I…I was merely doing my job.”
“But doesn’t it get tiring though?”
“Yeah it does but it’s worth it to make sure we keep some good hearted people around.”
Her heart fluttered at how warm his words made her feel. She quickly gazed away. ‘I just don’t get it. Why does this feel so familiar?’
“So uh…” Chase spoke up quickly changing the subject getting her attention, “Do you work today?”
“I work everyday Chase I only get days off if I have tons of homework or projects to do.” She smiled. “Which is very convenient considering I can completely high school and have a way to pay my rent without me collapsing from exhausting.”
“I still can’t believe you are living by yourself.” He gazed at her sternly. “Why do you live all by yourself anyway?”
Skyrah found his irritated tone somewhat surprising but responded. “Well technically I’m not living by myself. I’m still on the Cones’ property I just don’t live in their house anymore.”
“And why is that?”
“Because I felt like it. Besides six people living under one roof is enough.”
He crossed his arms snorting stubbornly. “Highly doubt it.” He then gazed blankly at her. “Let me guess you felt like you were intruding when you were living in the house with them?”
The brunette maiden jerked but quickly argued. “No that had nothing to do with it.” She gazed away while crossing her arms stubbornly. “I’m almost eighteen so it’s about time I started living on my own.” She tossed a glare up at him. “I can’t keep depending on them forever.”
The angel boy just sighed. ‘Those are pretty good points.’ He just gazed at her knowingly. ‘But I know that’s not the full reason for her being on her own.’
“Anyway let’s talk about something else.” She said quickly changing the subject smiling at him.
“Okay…like what?” He asked her oddly wit ha raised brow.
A wicked laugh suddenly reached their ears; the two snapped their gazes towards the laughter. To their surprise they found a tall man with an evil looking gaze approaching them.
Chase raised a brow staring at him oddly. ‘Who the hell is this guy? Why is he laughing like that?’ He suddenly felt uneasy under the man’s presences. ‘I don’t like the feel of this.’
He smiled wickedly at them. “Are you by any chance…a guardian?”
The two flinched and Skyrah quickly responded. “Oh no he’s far too young to take care of kids sir.” ‘I really hope that’s what he means!’
The man gazed over at the brunette girl. “Ah and you must be the pure heart.” The two gasped suddenly jerking at his words, he smirked. “You surely are a lovely one.”
Chase growled stepping in front of Skyrah. “Just who the hell are you? A demon no doubt!”
“Clever boy you are.” The man hissed out amusingly as horns, fangs and claws suddenly appeared. His gaze became red. “And I’m…” He charged towards them shouting, “Going to kill you!”
Chase gasped quickly grabbing Skyrah and jumped back just as the demon man slammed his fist into the sidewalk. The guardian glared at the demon while tightening his grip around Skyrah as he held her against his chest.
The demon man growled lowly before gazing up at the angel boy. “I will kill you so master and commander can complete their plan in peace!”
‘Plan?’ Skyrah repeated with wide eyes subconsciously gripping Chase’s shirt tightly. ‘What plan?’
“If you honestly think you’re going to kill her then you have another thing coming!” Her guardian shot back angrily.
“Oh my goal isn’t to kill the girl, not this time. My goal this time…” He rushed towards the angel boy, “Is to kill you!”
“What!?” Chase gaped out loudly but quickly vanished just as the demon man motioned to claw him. The guardian reappeared a few feet behind the demon. “Why?” He asked abruptly. “Because I killed your stupid friend!”
”Pff I could careless about that stupid tub of oil.” The demon man spitted out glaring at the boy. “He was a weak show off anyway.”
‘Had a feeling he would say that.’ Skyrah thought to herself with her gaze narrowed slightly. ‘Demons never show compassion not even to one another.’
“I merely just wanted to kill you boy, because you are a nuisance.” The demon told the angel boy.
“Oh am I now?” Chase responded blankly sounding very pleased. “Well then I’m obviously doing my job correctly.”
The demon scowled at him. “But your interference will stop here and now!” He came charging at the guardian shouting. “And I hate bothersome creatures!”
“Skyrah get back!” Chase instructed loudly not giving her the chance to protest as he gently pushed her behind him. He quickly brought up his arms covering his face slightly, so when the demon threw his glowing fist at him it slammed right into a barrier. Once the demon hit the barrier the demon experienced a painful shock and was thrown back. The demon grunted painfully as he slide on the concrete.
“Whoa.” Skyrah said with unblinkable eyes.
The demon growled crouching ready to speed off towards him. Chase noticed and prepared himself to fight. “Skyrah?”
The brunette gazed at the back of his head; he didn’t turn his gaze away from the demon man. “I’ll distract this demon while you run for it.”
“What no!” She responded quickly moving closer to his back. “I’m not leaving you behind to find him on your own!”
“No!” The guardian shot back firmly tossing a slight glare at her. “I need to concentrate on the fight and I can’t do that if I’m constantly worrying about you. Plus…” He looked away adding softly, “I just don’t want you to get hurt.”
Normally Skyrah would have argued but what he told her made sense and made her heart pound. ‘And I don’t want him to get hurt all because he’s protecting me.’
Suddenly his sword appeared in front of her guardian. When he unsheathed it he transformed back into his guardian form right when the demon came straight towards him. “Go Skyrah now!”
“O-Okay…” She hesitated before running off like he had instructed. ‘Please be careful Chase!’
Chase had swung his sword in attempts to chop the demon’s arm off but the demon immediately turned his arm into stone. The guardian grunted as he attempted to cut the demon’s arm off which felt like he was fighting a swordsman with the creature’s arm now made of stone. The demon shoved the angel boy back causing him to stumble a bit. Once Chase had regained his balance he jumped back right when the demon made the notion to claw him.
“AH!” Chase yelled out swinging up his sword as it shined bright yellow. The demon vanished right as the sword was about to slice him in half, Chase turned around just as the demon reappeared and shot a black blast at him. Chase held up the sword in front of him forming a barrier causing the beam to hit the barrier and with one swipe of his shining sword he cut through the dark blast making it vanish.
The demon man smirked at him. “Well you are pretty good I’ll give ya that much boy.”
The guardian noticed that the demon really wasn’t going after Skyrah like he had thought. ‘He really does have the intention on just killing me.’ His gaze narrowed. ‘But that still doesn’t mean this couldn’t be a trap. Skyrah please make it home safely.’
Skyrah panted continuing her way down the sidewalk. ‘Should I really leave Chase to take care of that demon all on his own?’ She came to a stop and looked down the direction from which she came. ‘Should I go back? I’ll feel horrible if anything bad happens to him.’
‘But he was able to defeat that oil demon yesterday so this shouldn’t be a big deal…right?’ As much as her heart protested the brunette turned motioning to continue her way to the diner. ‘I just have to believe in him and pray he doesn’t get badly injured.’
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
Skyrah skid to a halt gasping at the bloody murder scream, she snapped her attention towards a park that was just right across the street. She gasped sharply when she spotted a young girl being chased by a demon dog.
“Must…killed the light…the light must die!” The dog growled out angrily.
“AHAH SOMEONE HELP ME!” The young girl cried out. Skyrah narrowed her gaze and raced across the street. The girl suddenly tripped over a stone and began tumbling over and just when the dog was about to claw her in half, Skyrah wrapped her arms around the girl and flew out of the way making the demon miss.
“What!?” The demon dog yelped out in surprise that was the least thing he was expecting.
The young girl gaped in surprise when she saw the brunette teen hovering over her. Skyrah smiled at her. “Are you alright kiddo?”
She nodded slightly with wide eyes. “Y-Yeah.”
“You wench!” The girls snapped their gazes towards the demon dog. His gaze was narrowed on the teen. “That brat was my prey!”
Skyrah narrowed her gaze and stood up stepping in front of the young girl. “Well there’s certainly no way I’m going to let you kill her!”
“Grr I can see you try girly.” The dog hissed at her before pouncing towards her. “Fine I’ll have two snacks altogether!”
The brunette flinched back before quickly grabbing the girl’s hand and quickly dodged the dog just as he motioned to bit them. “Get back here!” He roared as he chased after them.
The girls raced down the fields. “I won’t let you get away! I need my food I need to get rid of the light!”
‘Light?’ Skyrah repeated raising a brow she gasped looking down at the girl. ‘Wait is he talking about a pure heart! Is this girl a pure heart?’ Her gaze narrowed with determination. ‘Then I must do everything I can to protect her!’
“ROARRRR!” The dog roared out jumping right in front of the girls. The young girl screamed as Skyrah skidded to a stop slowly backing up when the dog scowled at her. “You’re not going anywhere little mortal!”
The demon dog made the move to claw them but Skyrah quickly picked up the girl and raced out of the way. But just as she turned slightly the demon dog blasted a beam right from his mouth. The brunette yelped sharply and instinctively held up her arm and just as the blast was about to hit them a yellow barrier formed around her. She gaped softly her gaze wide at the sight not believing what she saw. “Wh-What just…”
She didn’t get the chance to finish her thought when the dog motioned to stomp his huge paw on them. Skyrah yelped pulling herself and the girl out of the way forcing him to pound dirt. The dog just growled and swung his arm and this time Skyrah wasn’t able to dodge it and was clawed across her back while being thrown onto the ground.
“Oh are you alright Miss!” The young girl yelped out fearfully.
Skyrah winced getting up on her elbows. “Yeah I’m fine.” At that moment her crystal began to shine.
Chase clashed his sword into the demon man’s stone arm, which he was using like a sword. ‘Okay I should stop stalling and get rid of this stupid demon now!’ After he clashed with the arm one last time he jumped back, he held out his sword in front of him. “It’s time to finish this.”
At that moment his shark tooth shined bright immediately getting his attention. He gasped. “Skyrah!” His gaze instantly went back to the demon. ‘Was this really a trap?’ He scowled angrily. ‘Damn demon!’ “You’re going to pay for that!”
His sword shined bright yellow and positioned the sword between his gaze his eyes flashed yellow. Then with the speed of lightening he charged towards the demon.
“What!?” The demon gaped out has he witnessed the angel boy vanish. He quickly began scanning the area hoping to catch the boy before he could make his move, but unfortunately he was unable to identify the boy’s location. ‘How can this be? How could that lad be that fast!’
“Hey horned face!”
The demon gasped and turned his gaze towards the voice just to have the guardian appear right in front of him. “Gah!” He yelped out quickly taking a step back.
“Taste the power of the light!” Chase yelled out swinging his sword up and before the demon even had the chance to run for it. The guardian swung his sword down slicing the demon in half; the light from the sword blasted the demon man.
“AHHHHH!” The demon yelled out in pain as the demon’s spirit was destroyed releasing a normal human man.
At the sight of the man Chase quickly jumped back sheathing his sword but not reverting back to his normal form. ‘Just as I thought. I was sensing there was a human inside of that demon.’
The man fell to his knees blinking before looking around confused. “How did I end up here? I thought I was waiting for my wife at the restaurant?” The man gasped horrified. “Oh no my wife!” He quickly got up and raced towards the restaurant.
Chase blinked surprised by the man’s reaction. “Well at least he’s alright.” Remembering Skyrah he quickly began jumping onto buildings following her life force. “Hang on Skyrah I’m coming!”
“AHH!” Skyrah and the young girl screamed as the dog-whacked Skyrah as she tried to protect the young girl. The two glided across the field making dirt and grass fly up.
“Ohh Miss!” The girl cried out kneeling on her knees looking at the brunette frightful.
Skyrah winced flinching in pain as she got up on her knees keeping her arm around the girl. “I’m alright don’t worry.”
“Still have the strength to stand do you.” The dog demon growled out grasping their attention.
The dog charged towards them. “But not for long! I’ll kill you and destroy the light!”
“AHH!” The girl screamed, Skyrah quickly grabbed the girl and pushed her forwards. “Keep running!”
“No!” The demon dog barked out watching the two run for it. The girl got her foot caught in a root causing her to trip and slam on the ground. “AHH!”
Skyrah gasped sharply. “Oh no!” She raced towards the girl and began helping her up. At that moment the dog shot a blast from his mouth. “You’ll die here and now!”
The two girls gasped and yelped when the blast came at them at high speed. Skyrah quickly scooted in front of the girl shielding her. ‘I have to protect a pure heart!’
But before the blast could even hit them a bright yellow light raced towards them. Skyrah yelped sharply when she felt herself get picked up by the waist. At that exact moment the beam hit the ground.
The dog grunted. “That should take care of them. Hm?” He said once the smoke cleared revealing no sign of their bodies. He arched a brow. “What the hell? Their bodies should still be there.”
Skyrah yelped slightly as she felt someone float down. “Skyrah?” She gasped recognizing the voice and quickly looked up to find none other than Chase. “Chase!?” He held her and the young girl under each arm, Skyrah on the left and the girl on the right.
The guardian gazed down at her. “Are you alright?”
She nodded slightly. “Y-Yes I’m fine.”
She heard him groan taking notice of her wounds. “Sure doesn’t look like it to me.” He then glanced at the young girl on his right and looked back at Skyrah. “Who’s the kid?”
“Well that dog demon was chasing after her wanting to eat her and get rid of the light.”
“What? The light?” He repeated sounding shocked.
Skyrah nodded. “That’s what he kept ranting on about.”
Chase tossed his gaze towards the girl. ‘Could this girl be…a pure heart?’ His gaze narrowed trying to concentrate on her life force.
“What!? Who the hell are you!?” Chase snapped his attention back at the dog demon. The demon finally took notice of the three and growled harshly as he turned to face them. “How dare you interfere with my dinner?”
“Like I would ever let any beast eat these two!” The guardian shot back angrily, he then quickly set the two girls down on the ground. He squatted down in front of them saying firmly. “Stay here you two don’t move unless it’s completely necessary.”
The girls nodded as Skyrah brought the younger girl into a protective embrace. “Alright.”
Chase nodded and quickly got up on his feet, unsheathing his sword and charged towards the evil dog demon. With the speed of the light and with one sweep of his sword he struck t he dog releasing another blinding yellow light.
The dog howled painfully as the light began burning him. “AHH that burns!”
Chase then twirled around blasting another light beam at the dog. The demon dog howled jumping back slightly at the sudden blast feeling the burning sensation once again.
“Whoa what…what is he?” The young girl exclaimed watching with wide amazed eyes.
“He’s an angel.” She heard Skyrah answer meeting her gaze.
“But how can that be? Aren’t angels supposed to be dead?”
“Well apparently this angel decided to become visible to us in order to save us.” The brunette teen lied with a warm smile.
Another howl grasped their attention just in time to see Chase slash at the dog again. The dog growled sliding his paws on the ground and rushed at the boy, he motioned to claw the guardian. But the guardian jumped up on his arm and blasted a yellow beam right in the demon dog’s eyes.
The dog demon scowled at the angel boy once the pain had subsided. “I’ll kill you!” A red blast shot out from the dog’s mouth.
Chase was just about to jump out of the way but quickly remembered that Skyrah and the young girl were right behind him. He held up his sword just as the beam came at him, with his sword he held up a shield like barrier. The blast didn’t go pass his shield but it did push him back far enough where his heel of his foot was barely touching Skyrah’s knee.
“Chase!?” Skyrah gaped out in surprise.
The guardian gritted his teeth not backing down from the beams strength. His gaze turned yellow. “AHHH!” He yelled out and with one swing of his sword broke the blast causing it to disintegrate.
The girls gaped as the dog demon growled out angrily. “WHAT!?”
“Never underestimate the power of the light.” Chase responded with a slight scowl. He then shouted rushing towards the dog. “Because the light will take you down!”
“Grr not if I have anything to say about it!” The dog barked out pouncing towards the angel boy. He then shot another red blast towards the guardian.
Chase’s gaze flashed yellow once again as he slashed his way through the blast forcing it to vanish. “What!?” The dog gaped out loudly.
“Take this dog breath!” Chase yelled out as the light around his sword began circling around the blade. “Light’s Wind!” With one sweep of his sword the light around his sword blasted out twirling around like a drill. The beam came at the dog demon so fast that he didn’t have the time to dodge and the blast sliced right through him cutting him into tiny little pieces.
The girls gasped at the sight. “Whoa.” The guardian landed his feet back on the ground and sheathed his sword back up. “That takes care of him.” He then quickly turned towards the girls kneeling down in front of them. “Let’s take care of your wounds shall we?”
Chase held out his hand and out of his hand came a soft yellow light and before the girls could say anything their wounds were gone. The girls gaped in amazement of what they saw. “Wow.”
The young girl gazed at her hands. “Here.” She looked up finding Chase standing up with his hand held out smiling. “Let’s get you home your parents must be worried.”
The girl stared at him for a moment before smiling. “Okay!” She grabbed his hand.
“Bye!” The girl said happily waving at them before racing into her house. Skyrah smiled. “Now hopefully she’ll be safe.”
“She should be.” Chase reassured her reverting back to his normal form. “I asked the angels to put a barrier around her so they can’t sense her light.”
Skyrah raised her gaze. “So is she?” He looked down at her as she went on. “Is she a pure heart?”
Her guardian sighed softly shaking his head. “No she’s just a regular heart.”
“Regular heart? Is there a difference?”
“Yes there is a difference between the two. Regular hearts whom have light but not much to threaten the creatures below. But pure hearts have a powerful amount of light that is a threat to the creatures.”
“But if the pure hearts are the main things they are fearing then why was that demon dog chasing that girl if she wasn’t a pure heart?” Skyrah questioned with a raised brow.
“I’m not sure.” He answered honestly before gazing up at the sky. “But it would seem that the pure hearts aren’t the only ones whom are being targeted.”
“What does that mean?”
Chase sighed softly. “I honestly have no clue. I have no idea what these creatures are planning but whatever it is it’s very obvious that it isn’t good.” Skyrah just stared up at him as he went into deep thought. ‘Looks like I have some investigating to do.’
