A small fleck of light

In the grim dark

Breathing

Yet not alive

Untamed but not free

Moving around

Yet staying in the same spot

Struggling against

Necessary shackles

Emitting deathly heat

Even in the coldest night

Pulling you near

Yet never too close

Giving off warmth

Bringing people together

Yet doomed to be alone

--

Casting flickering shadows

Upon surrounding walls

Upon surrounding people

No matter what material

No matter what colour

Limited strength

Unlimited hope

--

A lonely flame

Burning bright

Burning out

A lonely light

Fading…
