Shipwrecked on the Shore

My family is a shipwreck

blown on the rocks by circumstance.

My father plays the part of the broken hull

once built strong and supporting the ship

only to crash against the jagged rocks

and leave the rest of the ship rotting.

My mom is the tattered sail blowing in the breeze.

She once helped control the ship

but now struggles to flap in the wind.

My sister is the forgotten cannon

which was left rusting below deck.

No one knows when her fuse will blow

and often times its too short.

I play the part of the life boat

hanging off the side.

I'm still in use to save the day

and keep survivors afloat.

Not my greatest work. It was written in my Creative Writing class, so I guess it's to be expected.
