Living a Life of Undefined Fear.
With the moon starting to disappear behind the clouds, I walked alone along the pavement. It was another twenty minutes until my I reached my house, and the wind was beginning to blow harder.
‘Deep breathes, in and out,’ I told myself trying to ignore the random animal noises I was hearing. ‘It don’t mean anything, just ignore the voices, ignore the glares.’ I recollected about my day, and I felt my cheeks become warm. I took in a deep breath and started to walk faster.
The noises grew louder and my purple Chuck Taylor’s hit the gravel. Making more noise than the creatures around me, I began to hum one of my favorite songs, hoping it’d calm me down. Nothing worked, and still the scatters and hoots continued vociferous.
My steps became louder, straining my ears, remembering what the kids had done to me early today. The way they kidnapped me and dumped me in the forest, blindfolded. They hated the new girl and town, and left her alone and defenseless.
Now in a sprint, I heard a girl laugh, then a guy. They were surrounding now. There was nothing left I could do, but run faster, faster, faster. Once I realized I was lost in the unfamiliar town once again, I tried to stop. Because of speed I was going and my sudden urge to look around me, I fell, face first, in the blacktop.
The warm tears were still going down my face, only coming out quicker this time. “All I want is this to be over,” I told myself, looking around the dimly lit street.
“Over? Then leave, emo queer,” a guy’s voice verbalized.
The words struck my heart and I tried to stand up. My knees broke from under me, and rocks were establishing a home at my body. Within a few moments, the rocks grew larger, hitting my face, bare arms, and legs.
Begging them to stop, I covered my face, feeling the dirt from the street pour over me, “Stop, please!”
Terrorizing a helpless girl was something people in this town were good at, they weren’t used to having something different, unique in the schools with them. “Just as soon as you leave!” a girl yelled.
I felt eyes glaring at me, and the stones had ceased. A sharp pain found its way into my ribs and I felt, my head thumping against the road. All around me, the kicks came more and more, faster, harder, it seemed like it was never going to end.
Finally, what seemed like centuries later, they left me alone. There I was, lying on the ground, wearing my heart on my sleeve, about to bleed out. No one cared about me, I was too much not like them. Just another face that they didn’t care if they killed or tormented was what they say in me, they didn’t see me; they say a creature of the dark. No one mentioned to me, that this was hell.
