Alchemist's Work

”Take the body, soul and spirit,

Take your tools and work the matter.

Make the changes; earth to heaven,

Down again and back times seven.

-

Separating, purifying,

Put together, vivifying;

Still and stable, fixed, unmoving;

Volatile and changing, living.

-

A bit of this, a drop of that;

Still it's shallow, still it's flat.

Mercury, Sulphur, Salt and Fire,

Add together, raise it higher.

-

Purify by circulating;

Elixirs and distillating.

Salt of Salt to Air of Water;

Mix the separated matter.

-

Learn the words of Trismegistus,

Tricks and workings alchemistic.

Plants and stones and subtle things;

From Earth to Fire returning.”
