It’s insane how it feels
Happiness in a song, a dance, a prayer
It feels like my joy doesn’t end with a
Single tear
I am wrapped up warmly in a blanket
As I sing, off-tune and loud, to her
As her parents argue, as her mother
Screams, her hair ripped out in chunks,
“roses are red, darling,” I say, press a
Kiss to her nose, “and violets are blue”
