Stars

It's hard to see stars on a daily basis when you live in Los Angeles. The lights of the city are too bright. This is a thought that occurred to me as I was looking up at the pitch black sky one night. July 22nd, 2008.

Did you once consider the stars in the sky
that you can't see because of bright city lights?
Like the love of your life, the stars are there
but you're blinded by temporary woes and cares.
Adjust your gaze, look past the lights.
See more than what is merely in sight.
How many moments have we been left blind
by things artificial as city lights?
When we should be seeing things as they are.
Recognizing that often, even stars are in the dark.
Have you ever wondered how many stars are really up there?
Or perhaps how much of which we are unaware.
