Set in the east of the continent of Ordeasia, the longish Kingdom of Obelran was a famous trading centre, well known for its gemstones and crafted sculptures. And set in the heart of the bustling city was the palace, complete with its tall spires that towered grandly above the land and its famous jewel roof, forged together by the most skilled jewelsmiths and sculptors in the world for the royal family.
In the summer, the roof would shine so bright that it would blind those who looked up to awe at its dazzle. In winter, the roof would glisten under all the snow--a hidden treasure, beckoning people to come to it.
The roof was precious, yes, but nothing was more precious to the king, Gagris, than his youngest child, Camellia.
The Black Plague had ravaged Ordeasia several years past and Obelran's royal family suffered as much as its people did. The king's wife had died along with his two of his sons. His surviving son, the eldest of his children, had left home as humanly as possible to marry the princess of Lacquive, and had never attempted to communicate with his father his whole life.
Thus Camellia meant everything to the king, even dearer than the resplendent jewel roof, the kingdom or all of his riches. He wanted her to be always happy, and often lied to shield her from the evil of the world.
Princess Camellia grew to be sweet, gentle and innocent. Her wisdom was beyond other princesses, being shut up in the castle’s library all day long for as long as she could remember. She was a lovely princess, raven-haired, blue eyes, and was tall and slender. She received love more than she could take, and for seventeen long years, she remained in the shell of innocence.
And in a day, in a single blow, that shell of innocence was shattered and she was plunged into the darkness of evil and never recovered, the evil which lasted and plagued her family for many more generations. That day was her seventeenth birthday…
