Throughout time, no matter what decade one looks at, what century, one common theme in stories seems to emerge. The idea of people with powers. With the Greeks and the Romans, it was their gods and goddesses, and even in the 1930's, with the rise of comic books, heroes and villains came to be. The fascination with people who are superhuman has always been around, and has existed in a number of ways. Comics, stories, movies, figures, but it has always been there. Maybe it was that people always knew that someday, it would actually happen, people would actually begin to become powerful.
But what would it mean, to have people with powers? Some imagined it being like in comic books, with the good guys dressing in costumes and saving the day, the bad ones being punished and thrown in jail. Some imagined the government to take full control, hunting down superhumans and using them for experiments. No one could have guessed how it would really happen, though. Who would have known?
When the first superhuman sightings came about, they were simply rumors. The idea of anyone being strong enough to lift a car above their head and throw it seemed absurd. But as the sightings grew more common, so did the fear surrounding these people. Those who had shown off their gifts and were unable to defend themselves were often murdered, beaten by mobs of people too scared to comprehend what they were seeing. Some who could protect themselves ended up causing a good deal of devastation in their own defense, others simply destroying for the sake of doing so.
That's when the virus came about. Before things got too out of hand, the US government decided to come up with a virus that would potentially eradicate those with powers. Something went wrong, however, given what little time they had to test it, and instead of taking out those with powers, it began to attack the female population, which proved less able to fend it off. Soon, panic began to erupt, people attacking others in the streets, superhumans fighting each other, and pandemonium all around. It wasn't long before most of the governments began to collapse, the first having been the United States government.
After the United States government went down, it appeared as though it was a domino effect, others around the globe following suit as the virus spread, having been dubbed the Lady Killer. Once the virus had finally stopped, it had chopped the population of women down from over three billion, to around one hundred million. But by that time, that was the least of peoples' concerns. Governments had crumbled and dictatorships had come into place, all around the globe. World communications had gone offline, and much of the technology the world had once been so proud of seemed to have suddenly disappeared.
The world did go on, however, albeit slowly. Because dictatorships had risen, the world became more divided than it once was, the United States broken into several different territories, all controlled by different leaders. Europe and Asia fell into the same routine, other continents doing the same. Eventually, rumors of the superhumans began to dissipate, many having been killed off, and those that were left having been taken into custody by whatever dictator they were unlucky enough to be near when they exposed themselves.
But not all were taken in. Among a group of six, united in tragedy, there lies hope. All six are identified as being superhumans (or S.H's), with five males and one female having been noted. Currently, the female known only as Daylight, is being considered the primary target for capture, given her status. Her known ability is manipulation over free energy, able to create small explosions, flight, and shield herself and others. The remaining five males are Brian O'Malley, Richard Gibson, Zachary Tatum, Connor Reilly, and Benjamin Hewett. Brian O'Malley, AKA Furnace is known for his ability to manipulate and create fire. Richard Gibson, AKA Shooter, is known for his ability to form parts of his body into a variety of weapons. Zachary Tatum, AKA Image, is known to be a high-level telepath, able to communicate telepathically over long distances and force images into the minds of others. Connor Reilly, AKA Reckoning is known for his super-human strength. Finally, Benjamin Hewett, AKA Midnight, is known for his ability to manipulate shadows and darkness, seen as the opposite to Daylight.
But that should be enough of my explaining. The rest… well, you just have to see it to believe it.
