Dear Emille,

As I sit here in this empty home
Confounded to this place and left alone
I think of you, for twice I've thought of you
The first time here with me, the second gone

What is the difference?

When you were here, I knew not of this loss
Or of the thought of paths that do not cross
The winding road we took, we took together
We stopped a while to lay upon the heather

Your presence every moment was a present
And every word you spoke to me was pleasant
A gift to you, my love I give to you
For every word I spoke to you I meant

But that one night you whispered into me
That you must travel far across the sea
I cried for you, oh how I cried for you
I longed for you while you were there with me.

You once were here but now you are not here
I cannot hold your hand nor feel you face
I cannot linger in this lonely place
I know your heart is mine, but not as near

That is the difference
