Based on a dream I had. I just twisted the names and details around a bit.
Enjoy.
You Thought You Were the Reason I Was Broken?
Amber was miserable. There was no other way to say it. She was being forced for the seventh year in a row to go to Camp Willoway. There were a few problems with this. One, she hated camping in general. Two, she hated being outside. Three, and probably the biggest of all, her uncle owned the camp. Now, why is this a bad thing? Well, it’s what her uncle did to her while she was at the camp that made her not want to go back to camp.
There was an upside though. She would see Robert again. Just the thought of him made her smile. She barely saw him during the school year because they lived so far apart but during the summer, at Camp Willoway, they were inseparable. People wondered how they stayed together so long and when they asked, neither one of them knew what to say; especially Amber. With how much she had been through, she thought she would never want to touch another man in her life and become a lesbian when she left camp.
The year she met Robert was an amazing year for her. Her heart lifted a little at the memory and she tried to keep it at the front of her mind so she could at least try to forget where she was going for a while.
“Please don’t make me stay!” She tried to say without whining…and failing.
“Don’t worry honey! You’ll have a great time!” Her mother tried reassuring her. It wasn’t working.
“Mom, you say that every time I come here and every time you do I give you the same answer: ‘I WANT TO GO HOME!’” With that, she slammed the door shut and grudgingly walked away from her mother who was honking at her to hug her good-bye. At first, she didn’t feel guilty at all. Why should she feel guilty when her mother was making her come back here every year? Not that she knew what was happening but couldn’t she have figured out by now that her own brother was raping her own daughter? My mom’s too thick for that, she thought. She thinks everything is rainbows and butterflies until it all come crashing down on her. Even then her mother was much too cheerful to be normal. It almost sickened her
Although, when Amber did reach the flagpole, she did feel a little guilty. She doubted it put any damper on Rene’s oh-so-wonderful mood she always had. The red head silently wondered if her mother even noticed how much she was suffering because of her happiness. She doubted it. Her mother never asked her any questions if she was ok or anything. She assumed she was happy. She just didn’t know how to show it.
In truth, everything was terrible in Amber’s life. Her father was dead, her uncle raped her, her mother was too fucking happy to notice, and she had no friends to help her through the ordeal. Sometimes she made some new friends at camp but her weird mood swings would always scare them away after camp ended and she never heard from any of them again.
That’s when she saw him. Robert Green. He was tall, had jet black hair and pale skin that looked unbelievably smooth. His eyes were a dark green color and his too-much-eyeliner let them really shine. She looked further down a bit and saw a nose piercing. She was impressed. A tight fight Nine Inch Nails t-shirt followed by skinny black jeans. His figure was amazing. It wasn’t too girly but at the same time he wasn’t some buff freak with everything bulging out. His shoes were black around the edges and the tops were a bright green color. He looked amazing. Her type too.
Well, she really didn’t know what her type was. She never really had a chance to look around before her uncle came into the picture and gave her a fear of men for what she thought would be the res of her life. Apparently she still had it in her to be attracted to boys though. This comforted her. To her, it meant she wasn’t fully broken…yet. It’s only a matter of time, she thought sighing.
Amber debated in her head whether or not to talk to the attractive boy. She wondered if he would be scared away by her like all her other friends she made at camp. She hadn’t really cared for those other friends but there was something about this boy…She wanted to be friends with him. If that worked out, maybe more.
Gathering her courage and what little self-confidence she had, she walked over to the dock and sat down near the boy. She wrestled in her mind for a way to start. Then she remembered that he was new. She had never seen him here before. She’d start with that. “Hey, I’ve never seen you around here before and I know everyone here.” She said. He smiled. Amber melted inside. She was already in love.
“I’m Robert and this is my first year at Willoway. Is it any fun?” He asked. Robert, she thought. It suits him.
“Well, it’s ok I guess but, I’m probably just bored of it from coming so long, ya know?” She said.
“Ha, ha, yeah. I know all about that.” They both laughed for a bit. When they stopped they looked into each other’s eyes for a long time and Amber could tell that everything was going to be pe-
“Amber!” The dazed teen was shaken out of her memory by her mother’s voice.
“What, mom?” She couldn’t help but sound a little bitter. She hadn’t remembered everything. When she took a look outside, she felt even more bitter. They weren’t even there yet.
“Do you know what cabin you’re gonna be in this year?” Her mother asked, unfazed by Amber’s bitter mood as always, which, of course, made Amber even more bitter.
“No, mother. We don’t know until we sign in. Duh. It’s the same as every year.” Again, her mother did not seem to notice her daughter’s sour mood. It was really starting to piss her off.
“Well, Mark just called. He wanted to know what cabin you were in because apparently this year some kids got their cabin numbers early.” Amber inwardly cringed at the mention of her uncle, Mark.
“Well, apparently,I’m not one of them.” Amber hissed.
“Ok, jeeze. What’s up your ass?” Somehow, the red head felt like she had accomplished something by making her mother finally realize there was something wrong. It made her feel like she actually cared for once. Well, at least she noticed. Caring was taking it a little too far.
“I don’t wanna go. That’s what’s up my ass. It’s the same thing every year.” She stated. Her mother didn’t say anything. Probably trying to keep her happy-meeter in check, she thought and chuckled quiet enough so her mother wouldn’t hear at the thought.
For the rest of the ride nothing interesting happened. Amber was getting extremely tired of the same scenery. Nothing ever changes in this town, she thought with a sigh. She rested her head against the window and closed her eyes, letting her thoughts of seeing Robert again drift her off to sleep.
oOo
“Amber, sweetie, wake up. We’re here.” She moaned a bit and stretched, yawning loudly. She looked outside. Here we go again, she thought. With a long sigh she forced herself out of the car and hugged her mother good-bye before going over to the sign in table and signing herself in. She tried as hard as possible not to even glance at Mark but it was hard when she started to feel his breathing down her neck. “Yes, Mark?” She asked in a relatively stable voice.
“Welcome back, honey. I missed you.” He purred, almost making her puke in disgust. She signed in as quick as possible, not bothering to check if all the information was right before grabbing her card. Once she felt Mark’s watchful eyes were no longer on her, she sprinted to the flagpole, not stopping to catch her breath once.
When she reached the flagpole she saw Robert hadn’t arrived yet. Good, she thought. I’ll have some time to recover. She hated that the simplest breath on her by Mark made her want to curl up in fear, whimpering like a baby but who could blame her? Six years wasn’t going to just dissapear. It would most likely never going to. She hoped when she no longer was obligated to come to Camp Willoway, her and Robert could run somewhere far away. Somewhere in the city like Los Angelas, New York, San Fransisco, Chic—you get the point.
A few minutes later, Robert walked over by the flagpole and Amber grinned wildly. She ran over to him and wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug, almost knocking him over from the force. After the initial shock, Robert wrapped his arms around her and held her close. “I missed you.” Amber whispered.
“I missed you too.” Robert whispered back. She pulled away slightly to kiss him. He sighed into the kiss. He had missed her just as much as she missed him. They were forced apart too soon when other kids started coming over and they had to fight for their spot by the flagpole. Well, not exactly fight, but in order to keep the best spot by the flagpole (which was determined by God knows who to be directly under it) they kind of had to stay there.
When they reached the flagpole, they hugged, kissed, cuddled, anything they could do in public before they were separated again by their counselors. After all, the boys part of camp and the girls part of camp were separated. “I’ve got an idea.” Robert whispered into Amber’s ear with his arm wrapped around her waist and her arm wrapped around his shoulder. She smiled. This had to be good.
“Oh, what’s that?” She asked.
“Let’s get out of here. Tonight.” Robert said smiling. Amber’s mouth was wide open in shock and her thoughts were racing at her millions of miles per second rendering it impossible for her to focus on one thought. She did pick up one thought that stuck out more then any other of her racing thoughts combined.
What if Mark found out?
She bit her lip. It’s not going to happen, she decided. Robert’s too smart to get caught. She needed to ask why thought, first.
“May I ask why the sudden impulse to runaway?” He chuckled a bit before continuing.
“This place is too boring for us. We need to go somewhere where we can really let loose.” He said. She liked that idea. She liked it a lot.
“Where did you have in mind?” She asked. He smirked.
“Seattle.” He said grinning. No way in hell was Amber passing and opportunity like this up.
“Hell yes!” She whispered loudly. Robert laughed, a little hysterically.
“Then it’s settled. We’ll go tonight. Meet me here at around, oh say, midnight?” Midnight. It’s always midnight. She still loved it thought.
“Midnight.” She agreed.
What they didn’t know is that they were both being watched and someone was about to put a little dent in their plans.
Ohh, what's gonna happen?! Teehee, only I know. You know, I was planning on making this one extremely long one shot but I decided to be mean and leave you all hanging and I won't continue unless I get reviews. You saw that with So She Walked. I'm not joking. If I don't get any reviews within like a month or two, I think no one cares enough for me to continue the story. So, if you want more, you're gonna have to review. I love reviews.
